4.OLD BUSINESS
a.Marketing Update
Chairman Kennedy stated the concept for the scholarship is simple, however they have been slow
to get it marketed. He felt the numbers of donations was small, mostly because the word has not
gotten out yet. He stated there are seven people donating at this time. We have 10,000 utility
customers, if we could get 10% to give $1 per month that is my goal. How do we accomplish this?
One idea is the website, which has been built however you cannot donate on it yet. Marquee signs
were another suggestion. The best way for people to donate right now is to call the City. City Clerk
Wenzel stated the form is on the City website.
Chairman Kennedy discussed the father/daughter dance as a fundraiser. His vision is “A Night with
the Princess”, to make sure that all parents know they are invited. He would like to have it at the
YMCA and have the elementary school PTA’s involved. He asked if the middle school girls would be
interested. Mr. Rawlings stated there would be an interest. Chairman Kennedy also suggested
involving the elementary schools in New Smyrna also. He would like the PTA’s to help sell tickets.
They could have a piece of the ticket price. For example if the ticket is $15 the PTA would get $5.
The PTA could then have a table at the dance and sell baked goods or whatnot and make some
money.
Chairman Kennedy spoke with a couple of photographers, they could have a DJ and snacks. There
would also be an opportunity to sign up to donate to the scholarship fund.
Chairman Kennedy suggested having the dance around Valentine’s Day or the 1 Friday or Saturday
st
of Spring Break. Mr. Kelly like the idea of Valentine’s Day.

activities and food.

The Committee discussed the types of food to be provided and what the PTA’s could sell.
Chairman Kennedy suggested the dance be for girls of all ages, including pre-school. He added that
he would like to see a $2000 scholarship this year.
Mr. Kelly stated $2 per ticket should go to each school that sells them.
The Committee decided on $14/pair and $4/individual for ticket prices. Chairman Kennedy stated
each school PTA would get 25% of their sales.
Mr. Kelly stated he has spoken with the schools regarding having an art show. Hey indicated they
would work with him on it.
