2001-R-22RESOLUTION NO.2001-R-22 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, ACKNOWLEDGING THE SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 TERRORIST ATTACK ON THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND OFFERING OUR SUPPORT AND PARTICIPATION BY ESTABLISHING THE "UNITED WE STAND" PROGRAM AND OFFERING THE SERVICES OF OUR MUNICIPALITY AS REQUESTED; REPEALING ALL RESOLUTIONS IN CONFLICT HEREWITH AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Edgewater offers to support the efforts of the citizens of the United States with regard to the terrorist attack on our Country on September 11, 2001; and WHEREAS, the City expresses its support to the victims, their families and their loved ones; and WHEREAS, the City requests the citizens and the departments of the City of Edgewater to research any and all means to aide the victim's and their families of this terrorist attack; and WHEREAS, the City desires to form a "United We Stand" Program with the help and expertise of the Fire Chief, Police Chief and Finance Director, to direct the City's efforts in starting this program and organize various collection methods; and WHEREAS, these methods include but are not limited to Police and Fire collections drives, collection canister in various locations such as City Hall, Police Department, and the Fire Department. This program will also research the best way to utilize the collected monies for the benefit of all those affected by this tragedy; and WHEREAS, should the need arise where our personnel are needed in the recovery phase of the World Trade Center, our municipality will support the need for requested aid to the best of the City's ability. 2001-R-22 NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida: Section 1. The City shall form a "United We Stand" Program and direct the departments of the City to research any and all means to aide the victims and their families of this tragedy. Section 2. The City of Edgewater hereby offers financial and staffing support to the best of our ability to the victim's families and loved ones of the tragedy that struck our Country on September 11, 2001. Section 3. The City shall establish collection canisters at City Hall, Police Department and Fire Department. Section 4. The City shall research the best uses of the funds and City manpower to provide assistance to the victims and their families. Section 5. The City shall update its policies and procedures to provide the best protection, safety and security for its citizens and personnel. Section 6. All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith be and same are hereby repealed. Section 7. This resolution shall take effect upon adoption.
