95-R-23 ~ .."., RESOLUTION 95-R-23 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, COMMITTING, SUPPORTING AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE IN THE STRUCTURING OF A CENTRAL VOLUSIA AQUIFER PARTNERSHIP DESIGNED TO DEVELOP, MONITOR AND MANAGE REGIONAL WATER PLANS FOR THE VOLUSIA COUNTY AQUIFER; REPEALING RESOLUTIONS IN CONFLICT HEREWITH AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, it is acknowledged and recognized that there is a sole source water aquifer which supplies water to the cities, Volusia County, private water suppliers and agriculture interests in Volusia County; and WHEREAS, it is recognized that all users of the Volusia County aquifer must rely on a continuous source of raw water to sustain life and the environment of Volusia County; and WHEREAS, it is acknowledged that an aquifer management plan and organization must be developed, coordinated and monitored to assure a continuous source of quality raw water supply for all residents of Volusia County; and WHEREAS, government officials from the public sector and representatives of private utilities and agriculture interests have met and discussed the need and various options for creating a Central Volusia Aquifer Partnership and Plan to manage water resources in Volusia County; and WHEREAS, the City of Edgewater is vitally concerned and effected by the Volusia County aquifer and desires to participate in the development and management of a Central Volusia Aquifer Management Plan. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida: Section 1. The City of Edgewater recognizes it is in the best interest of the health, safety and welfare of its residents to: A. Be an active and full participant in the structuring of a Central Volusia Aquifer Partnership designed to provide long term stability for management of the Volusia County aquifer and to coordinate the work and efforts of regional work groups to provide an acceptable Management Plan for this purpose. 95-R-23 1 B. Direct the City Manager to actively participate in the administrative planning and coordination of the process. Section 2. All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed. Section 3. This resolution shall take effect upon adoption.
