08-20-1982 - Joint GEPB/PPB Now 'gore CITY OF EDGEWATER Joint Pension Board Meeting August 20, 1982 Mayor Christy called the meeting of the Police Pension Board and the General Employee's Pension Board to order in the conference area of the Community Center. ROLL CALL Police Pension Board: General Employee's Pension Board: Mayor Robert Christy Present Mayor Robert Christy Present Chief Earl Baugh Present City Clerk Nancy Blazi Present Patrolman Britain Present Cornelia Kinsey Present Lt. Rickelman Excused Everett Wilcox Present Rev. Canova Present Rev. Hardin Present Also present Mr. Jack Ascherl, Insurance Agent and Joseph Mitchell, City Manager. The board discussed the eligibility age for membership in the pension plan. Presently, employees must be 21 years old to be eligible to join the pension plan. The City has hired some employees between the ages of 18 and 21 and these employees are not presently eligible to join the pension plan. This is discriminatory in view of the fact that State law allows the hiring of police personnel under the age of 21. Mr. Ascherl assured the boards that the addition of a few employees to our present plan would not be costly. Mr. Britain motioned to recommend to Council that the eligibility age be reduced from 21 to 18, seconded by Chief Baugh. Mrs. Kinsey also motioned to recommend the reduction of the eligibility age from 21 to 18, seconded by Rev. Hardin. There was a joint roll call and the motions CARRIED unanimously. Further discussion followed concerning the effective date of this change. Mr. Britain motioned to make the changes retroactive to allow existing employees to get full pension credit, seconded by Chief Baugh. Mrs. Kinsey motioned to accept Mr. Britain's motion for the general employees, seconded by Rev. Hardin. There was a joint roll call and the motions CARRIED unanimously. •Chief Baugh motioned to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Rev. Hardin. Meeting was adjourned. Minutes submitted by: Nancy Blazi
