02-10-1993 - Workshop CITY COUNCIL OF EDGEWATER WORKSHOP FEBRUARY 10, 1993 7:00 P.M. COMMUNITY CENTER MINUTES CALL TO ORDER Mayor Hayman called the Workshop to order at 7 : 00 p.m. in the Community Center. MEETING PURPOSE The purpose of the workshop was for goal setting and development of the City' s mission statement. Mayor Hayman identified Professor Maria Aristicleta from the University of Central Florida was present who had been working with them on their vision of what they see their role as a government, as Council and as staff for the future of Edgewater. Ms . Aristicleta handed out an agenda which listed the information she received on what they wanted to accomplish tonight. She hoped to get to the point of assigning goals . She referred to an article Council had in front of them with regard to strategic planning and encouraged them to read it. Ms. Aristicleta suggested they look at the mission statement that had been developed and review the components, discuss them, amend them, change them or add to them with the goal of reaching a consensus of what the mission statement for the City of Edgewater should look like. She suggested they break into four small groups . Ms. Aristicleta referred to a booklet she had given Council last week which had what every mission statement should contain. Once everyone broke into groups, she had everyone take a look at the mission statements and the components of the mission statement and make sure it met the needs of what a mission statement should address which she gave them 20 minutes to do after which they reconvened as a group. Ms . Aristicleta asked everyone to consider the areas they wanted to address which had not been previously addressed in the mission statement. The items identified were what makes them distinctive or unique and key stakeholders . Ms . Aristicleta wanted to speak about key stakeholders first. She asked what they needed to add to the mission statement to include their key stakeholders. She asked how they wanted to deal with that. 1 Council Workshop February 10, 1993 Councilman Jones referred to including businesses .
