MINUTES OF SPECIAL _; ETING OF TOWN COUNC IL
HELD JANUARY 24, 1927.
A special meeting of the Town Council of
the Town of Edgewater, Florida, was held at the Town
Hall in said Town at five o ' clock in the afternoon of
the 24th day of January, A. D. 19'27. There were pr e-
sent Alderman A. 3. Wilkinson, President of the sown
Council and Aldermen A. R. patch and E. H. Lohman,
pursuant to proper notice previously m de to all mem-
bers of said Town. Council.
The meeting was called to order by the
President , who, after declaring that a cjuorum was
present stated. the object of the meeting.

ordinance :
ORDINANCE NO,
AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE MANNER OF
CALLING GENERAL AND SPECIAL ELECTIONS IN THE TOWN OF
EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, AND PUBLISHING NOTICE THEREOF;
PROVIDING FOR REGISTRATION of ;UALIFIED ELECTORS; PRO

VIDING FOR THE OPENING AND CLOSING OF REGISTRATION
BOOKS; PROVIDING THE LIMlluD FOR DETERMINING THE
TEE AND PURPOSE OF SUCH ELECTIONS ; PRESCRIBING THE
PLACE FOR SUCH ELECT IONS ; PROVIDING FOR THE APPOINT-

MENT OF rLECTION lNSPECTORS AND CLERK AND DEFINING
THEIR DUTIES; PROVIDING FOR A BOARD OF CANVASSERS ;
PRESCRIBING THE FORM OF BALLOTS, AND PROVIDING THE
MANNER OF NOMINATING THE CANDITATES FOR MUNICIPAL
OFFICES AND ACCEPTANCE OF SUCH ,OMINATION;
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE
TOWN OF GE:`CATER , FLORIDA:
Section 1. That all annual and special
elections shall be called by the Town Council, Such
elections shall be called by posting notice thereof
in three different places in said Town, one of Which
shall be at the front door of the Town Hall of said
Town, otherwise known as "Community Hall", at least
fifteen (l5 ) days prior to the late set for such elec-
tion. Proof of the posting of such three notices shall
be made by the certificate of the Clerk of the Town of
Edgewater, Florida.
Section 2. The Town Clerk shall be ex-
officio town registration officer, and may appoint
as many assistant registration officers as he may
deem necessary. He shall keep a registration book
in which shall be entered the names of all the inhab-
itants of said Town who shall in person make appli-
cation for registration, and who shall possess the

qualifications requisite to an elector at general
State elections , and who shall have paid his , or
her, poll taxes as provided by law and as prescribed
for State elections , and shall have resided in said.
Town for six (6) months next preceding the election,
provided that State or County registration shall not
be required to qualify an elector of said Town.
Section 3. That the Town Books of Regis-
tration may be kept open at all times for registra-
tion, except as hereinafter provided, during the week
days at the office of the '2own Clerk and shall be
kept open for registration from 9 o ' clock A. me to
12 o' clock Noon, and from 2 o ' clock r. r.. to 5
o ' clock P. n. during the week days at the office
of the Town Clerk for ten ,10 ) days before the close
of the books for registration, and the books shall
close at 5 o ' clock P. M. on the secorri day hefore
the elect ion.
Section 4. That the Town Council shall,
at the meetin€, calling an annual or special election
as hereinbefore provided, prescribe by resolution
the time of holding such elections and the purpose
thereof. All town'elections sb 1l be held at the
Town Hall unless otherwise ordered by resolution or
ordinance of the Town Council.

Section 5. That the Town Council shall
appoint four persons from the qualified electors of
said. Town, three to act as inspectors and one to act
as Clerk at said election, who shall conduct all elec-
tions in conformity with the laws of the State of Flo-
rida governing general elections in said. State, pro-
vided that such inspectors and Clerk of such election
shall in the performance of their duties be at all
times subject to the supervision of the Town Council.
Section 6. That the inspectors and Clerk
of the election shall constitute the Board of Can-
vassers.
Section 7. That all ballots for use in
annual and special elections shall be in substantially
the same form as that prescribed by law for general
elections in the State of Florida.
Section 8. That the Town Council shall
cause to be printed upon said ballots the name of
any qualified elector of said Town who has been re-
quested. to be a candidate for any municipal office
by written petition signed by at least twenty-five
(S5) electors qualified to vote in the election to
fill said office, when such petition has been filed.

with said Town Council not more than twenty days
nor less than ten days previous to the election,
pro tided that the name of no person shall be printed
on the ballot who has failed to notify the Town
Council within five days before the election that
he will and does accept the nomination specified
in the petition hereinbefore required.
Section 9 . That this ordinance shall
become effective upon its passage by the Town Coun-
cil and upon its approval by the Mayor or upon its
becoming effective without such approval as provided
by law.
Passed by the unanimous consent and vote
of all the members of the Town Council present on the
24th day of January, A. D. 1927 .

And the same after having been read in its entirety
to the own Council was duly passed by the unanimous
consent and vote of all members present , the aye and nay
vote upon the passage of said ordinance being as follows;

On motion of Alderman patch, seconded. by
Alderman Lohman, the following resolution was unani-
mously gassed and adopted;

A resolution calling a special election
for the purpose of electing two of the qualified
electors of the Town of Edgewater, Florida, as
aldermen to fill two vacancies in the Town Council
of said. Town.

of Edgewater, Florida, deems it advisable and ne -
cessary to call a special election for the purpose
of electing two of the gmlified electors of the
Town of Edgewater, as aldermen t o fill two vacancies
in the Town Council, now therefore ,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF
THE TOWN OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1. ' 'hat a special election
for the purpose of electing two of the qualified
electors of the Town of Edgewater as aldermen to
fill two vacancies in the Town Council of said Town,
be and such special election is hereby called to be
held in the Town of Edgewater, Florida, on the 28th
day of February, A. D. 1927.
Section 2. That such special election
shall be held under and in compliance with the laws
of the State of Florida, and the ordinances of the
Town of Edgewater relating thereto.
Passed and adopted by the unanimous vote
of all members present on the 24th day of January ,
A. D. 1927 .

On motion of Alderman Wilkinson, seconded.
by Alderman Patch, the following resolution was unani-
mously passed and adopted:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the Tuwn Council of the Town of
Edgewater, Florida, deems it necessary and advisable
and for the best interest of the town to open the town
registration books on the 25th day of January, A. D.
1927, now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE T OW N C OUNC IL OF THE
TOWN OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS;
That the Town Clerk be and he is hereby
authorized and. instructed to open the registration
books of said own on the 25th day of January, A. D.
1927 and keep said. books open each week day there-
after up to and including the 26th day of February,
A. D. 1927, from nine o 'clock to twelve o 'clock in
the forenoon of each of said days and from two o '
clock to five o 'clock in the afternoon of each of
said. days.
Passed and adopted by the unanimous vote
of all members present on the 24th day of January,
A. D. 1927.

There being no further business before
the Town Council, a motion for adjournemt was made
by Alderman Lohman, seconded by Alderman patch, which
motion was unanimously carried and the meeting order-
ed adjourned..

The foregoing minut es of the special meet-
ing held by the Town Council of the Town of Edgewater,
i. Florida , on the 24th day of January, A. 1927, having
been read to the members of the Town Council by the Town
Clerk at this a special meeting of the Town Council held.
January 31st, A. D. 1927, at five o ' clock P. M. , the
same are hereby declared to be true in every respect
and correct in form and the same are hereby duly ap-
proved, ratified and confirmed this 31st day of Jan-
uary, A. D. 1927.
