Among the first important matters to be given active handling was that bf the almost complete absence of law enforcement 1 in Edgewater. Due to the fact that for several years no municipal 1 corporation had governed the territory that is now Edgewater, law enforcement became very lax; and in fact, was practically unknown. I have endeavored to correct this situation, and to handle .the office of rayor in such manner that the respect accorded other well regulated municipalities might also be oars. I believe that we have made a fair beginning in this 9otK ; and while it is not my desire to see Edgewater receive unfavorable 4e n y as a "speed-tray", and so forth, yet I do intend to so far as possible hare our laws and ordinances enforced, as is proper. it is my aim to have our community reach the safety and security to human life and property tha it should. During the past year traffic violations have been given a great deal of attention, resulting in a large number of violators being halted and warned, and in other cases, where violations .yore flagrant, punid, ed. In the various matters the Town Council has seen fit to place in my charge, such as street and bridge work, every effort has been made to handle them satisfactorily and to the advantage of the Town. I wish to commend the Council on the for';ar±d attitude that has been taken during the year, and on the progress that has been rm.de toward making our Town one that is second to none. A great deal of progress has been made in the year past, and I hope that this will continue 222 ,; 1 4\ z, a daring the year that has now just begun. Ili In conclusion, I wish to tender my thanks and anoreoiation to the Uouncil_ for the manner in which they have worked with me; and to compliment the Council upon the harmony %hat has prevailed during our period of service together; and to express the hope that this condition will also continue. I would respectfully recommenct that tr_e work of cleaning and. brushing the streets of our To-n be continued, and to ask that this work be extended. to also include Park Avenue, which street is our only outlet to the 'Vest. Respectfully submitted, / -,-- r 4 --, ,-( -1„) Mayor o the Town'o errater. i • i i 4 221 I I THE TOWN OF EDGE YAT?i , FLORIDA STATEMENT ENT OF RECEIPTS AND EXPENDITURES FOR THE YEAR BEGINNING NOVEMBER 16TH 1926, ENDING NOVEMBER 15TH 1927. ---oo0oo--- D I SBUR SEMENT S STREETS: Maintainance and improvements $2,408.11 DRAINAG ,': Maintainance 168.00 SHIES: Clerk and Marshal and Town Attorney -495.00 LEGAL: Defense of suits 764.85 Construction: 34.39 Office Supplies and Equipmentx 93.65 Printing, Stationery and Supplies 85.27 Advertising 21.97 Assessment Expense: year 1926 168 .40 Assessment Expense : year 1927 131.62 Elections 38 .25 Tax Refunds 3. 65 Tax Sale Expense: year 1926 349.05 Tax Collector 's Commissions : year 1926 150.00 Lighting and cleaning Town Hall 18.66 Map of Edgewater 233.74 Miscelleanous Expense 93.91 Tax Certificates bid in for Town, year 1926 :1,M53.36 Tax Certificates redeemed: 83 .60 TOTAL EXPENDITURES: 6,395.48 TREASURER'S BALANCE, NOV:dame 15TH 1927 633.91 $7,029.39 (Page One) 229 R E C E I P T S Taxes paid on real property, year 1926 $3,841.93 Taxes paid on real property, year 1925 237.53 Fines and Forfeitures 185.00 License Taxes paid, year 1926 162.50 .
