Edgewater Flo June 18 1929
Town Council of Edgewater
Edgewater Flo:
Gentlemen:
Have investigated the sanitary conditions at hone of Giddens
corner Dixie Highway and Hotel Avenue. Found that they were not provided
with a toilet of any kind and was advised by Mrs. Giddens, Mr. Harry Sams
had the rental and handling of said place. I requested her to see Mr. Sams
and have a toilet provided. She said, "Could not see Mr. Sams before Sat-
urday; I got in touch with Mr. Sams and found that Giddens paid no rent
and he as agent for a Mr. Ackley, refused to go to any expence to pro-
vide Giddens with a toilet, but any action we wished to take in the matter
would be satisfactory.
I then sent Marshal Simpson to the Giddens to inform them that
we would give them until Tuesday Noon June 13th to provide themselves
with a toilet , or we would take action at out meeting tonight. Upon
further investigation, I find they have provided themselves with a crude
structure which will serve the purpose, provided however, they have a
pit which will conceal waste matter from flies and other disease carry-
ing insects.
Owing to the high tides of late have been unable to investi-
gate as thoroughly as we wished to, the pipe extending along the boat
dock in front of the home of Maude , but have been advised by
Mr. R..C. Fuller, who is occupying the house, he has not not-
iced any thing at the outlet of said pipe which would be evidence of
any waste and fol matter passing through this pipe. re will, as soon
as tides are receeded enough that we may observe , just what this pipe
is and make a further report.
This , gentlemen, is the report of the Street Committee, as
we found conditions, and is for your information.
Respect fully,

Edgewater Flo. June 18 1929.
Councilmen Town of Edgewater
Edgewat er Florida.
Gentlemen:-
Reference proposed crossing of Railway Right of 'Jay at inter-
section of Flagler Avenue and the Florida East Coast Railway.
We, the Committee Mr. H. A. Moore and mys elf met with Mr. Pooser
Superintendent of Railway Company and discussed this crossing briefly. Mr.
Pooser advised us, as he had advised Mr. Milton Fuller in previous corres-
pondence, this matter was out of his jurisdiction and woald have to be
handled direct with Vice President, Mr. H. N. Rodenbaughil StAugustine Flo.
Mr. Pooser also advised us , it was believed we would be ahle
to procure permission from Fair. Rodenbaugh for the crossing of their right-
of-way. I then asked regarding expense of installing such a crossing. He
said, "Towns, Counties and State bear the expense of such crossings': He
thought tho, as this crossing was only accessibility to tillable lands
and would promote agriculture in this section, we my get some consider-
ation from the Railway, meaning, that the Railway, under the circumstances
may see fit to bear some of the expense. He could not, however , state def-
inate, as previously stated, this matter was out of his jurisdiction.
'de the commitee, therefore, recommend that our Clerk be instruc-
ted to communicate with Mr. Rodenbaugh, stressing the facts as to develop-
ment, whictt would no doubt mean business for the railway and make special
appeal for lowest possible cost to us .
