10-01-1929 - Regular { ow r • MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF EDGEWATER, VOLUSIA COUNTY,FLORIDA, HELD TUESDAY OCTOBER 1 A.D. 1929. Meeting called to order at 7:30 P,M. by Phil Marz, President of Council. ROLL CALL : Mayor Lembeck, Present Pres. Phil Marz, Present Ald. W.T.Goodyear, Present Ald, H.A.Moore, Present Ald,F.R,Renwick, Absent Aid. A.R. Patch, Absent. MINUTES : Minutes of regular meeting held Tuesday September fix 16th, 1929 , were read by Clerk. Motion by Ald.W.T .Gaiodyea; seconded by Aid. H.A. Moore, that minutes be approved,, as read. Motion narri ed, COMMUNICATIONS: Mayor Lembeck read letter from Mr.P.B .Dick, dated Sept. , 28th 1929, setting forth objections to the opening of the Street known as Dixwood Avenue. Council unanimously agreed and instructed Clerk to write Mr.Dick, and advise him that Council would not permit the closing of the Street known as Dixwood Avenue, said street having been dedicated to and accepted for public use , by the Town of Edgewater, and fur- ther that the Town Council was governed by the laws of the State of Florida, specifically Chapter 1843 Rev. Gen'l Stat- utes ( 1920) . INTERIM: By unanimous consent, Council dispensed with the regular order of business , in order to give visiting Citizens the privelige of addressing the Council. Mrs.Geo. Reed, Mrs.Roy Mathewson, and Mr.H.B .Ashcraft and Mr.Mikell, were present. Moor Lembeck invited Mks Reed and Mrs. Mathewson to speak. Mrs. Reed, spoke to Council , in behalf of the civic League , asking the co-operation of the Council in devising ways and means to beautify the town, stating that the Civic League was anxious to aid in any manner possible, efforts toward this purpose, specifically mentioning that shade trees would be a benefit on some streets. She also stated that the League was very anxious to lend its aid toward the control of the mosquito nuisance. Mrs. Mathewson, told the Council that the State Board of Health, would furnish a free lecturer, to visit Edgewater, for the purpose of educating the people ±xs , with the idea of mosquito control. However it was decided by Council and Mrs. Mathewson , for the League , to arrange a future date for the lecture, probably in Yanurary. h ayor Lembeck asked Mrs ,Mathewson to convey to the League, his heartfelt thanks for the spirit and splendid work of the League in Civic matters in Edgewater. Mr.Mikell, asked Council to take ,necessary steps to remedy the condididm of the street known as the old County Road, worth of Park Avenue, stating that in rainy weather it was impassible, on foot. Aid.. W.T.Goodyear made motion that Street Committee be authorized to expend and amount not to exceed Fifty Dollars , in correcting the streets condition, as far as possible. Moition seconded by Ald. REPORTS OFtDFFI CERS: Treasurer read Treasurers report for Month of Sept. Clerk read Clerks report for month of Sept. Ald. W.T.Goodyear moved that reports be received and made a part of these minutes. Seconded by Ald. H.A.Moore and un- animously carried. MIS CE 1.:J12TE O US: Ald. W.T.Goodyear made motion, that Clerk be authorized to purchase a wide carriage , Underwood Typewriter, for the use of the Clerk' s Office , from the City of New Smyrna, at a cost not to exceed Twenty Five Dollars. Motion seconded by Ald. H.A.Moore and unanimously carried. Ald. W.T .Goodyear, made the following motion: That Clerk be instructed to Open regristration books for ten days , beginning Monday October 21 and ending Friday November 1st. , 1929 , observing such hours as prescribed by Ordinance of the Town of Edgewater, governing. Motion seconded by Aid. H.A. Moore, and unanimously carried. Aid. W.T.goodyear offered the following resolution: ( see page 3 ) 4.89 (Wei' AV Sheet 3, Minutes of Town Council Town of Edgewater, Florida held Tuesday October 1 1929- continued R E O B L U T I O N RESOLUTION CALLING THE REGULAR ANNUAL ELECTION IN AND FOR THE TOWN OF EDGE- WATER, FLORIDA; AND PROVIDING FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUCH ELECTION WHEREAS, the laws of the State of Florida and the Ordinances of the Town of. Edgewater, Florida, provide, among other things, that a general election shall be held in and for the Town of Edgewater, Florida, once each year, for the purpose of electing certain officers of the Town of Edge*ter, as herein set forth; AND WHEREAS, the ordinances of the Town of Edgewater prolide, among other things, that the Town Council of said town shall by resolution prescribe the time of holding such annual election a_.d the purpose thereof, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA: Section 1. That the regular, annual election in the Town of Edgewater, Volusia County, Florida, to be held for the purposes set for4h in Section 2 of this resolution, be and the same is hereby called to be held on Tuesday, the 5th day i AO (411) rl of November, A. D. 1929, at the Town Hall; and that the polls be open between the hours of eight o9cloek A. M. and Sundown, Standard Time on the day of said election. Section 2. That the aforesaid annual election herein called to be held on the 5th day of November, A. D. 1929, shall be held for the purpose of electing the following officers of the Town of Edgewater, Florida, for the terms set down opposite their respective titles: One Mayor, for a term of one y ar Two Aldermen, for terms of two years each One Town Clerk, for a term of one year One Treasurer, for a term of one year One Marshal, for a term of one year Section 3. That this Resolution shall be posted, together with a notice of election, in three different planes in the Tom of Edgewater, one of which shall be at the front door of the Town Hall of said Town, otherwise known as "Community Hall"; and that the Town Clerk shall make proof of such posting by certificate, Section 4.
