MINUTES UTES OF REGULAR MEETING OF THE
TOWN COUNCIL, TOWN OF EDGEWATER,
VOLUSIA COUNTY, FLORIDA HELD IN
THE V.I .A. HALL AT EDGEWATER,FLA. ,
WEDNESDAY, THE 20th DAY OF APRIL
A.D. 1932
FETING called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor-Councilmn
F.R.Renwick, presiding, with the following office
present:
Mayor-councilman F.R.Renwick,
Councilman J.J.Francis,
Councilman H.P.Wilkinson,
Clerk R.C.Fuller.
Mayor Renwick, after declaring the meeting open,
asked the Citizens present if they had any matter
to bring before the Council.
Mr.W.H.Beckwith, stated that they wished to bring
some matters before the council, but would wait
until the council had disposed of the regular orarr
of business.
MINUTES of the regular meeting held iednesday April 6th,
A.D. 1932, were thereupon ordered read, and adoptd
as read, on motion of Councilman H.P .Wilkinson,seo-
onded by Councilman J.J.Francis , the motion being
unanimously carried.
Attorney G.O .Rasco was asked if he had a report to
make relative the matter of forcing property owners
to clean vacant lots , where the same constituted a
fire hazard. Mr.Rasco advised the Council that his
investigation of the matter showed that the eounczl
could not legally enforce such an ordinance.
REPORTS OF OFFICERS:
Clerk read the Marshalls report of
Street work done during the first 'period of April
1932. The report was ordered filed and payment
made to the Marshall for 12 days labor « 1.35 per
day, covering the time shown on the reports.
Mayor Renwick reorted that a serious brush fire
had occurred in the vicinity of N":r.E?A.Lembecks'
residence in Highland Shores, the New Smyrna Fire
"'epartment having been called, to protect the resi-
dential property, and that the fire had been con-
trolled without material damage to any property.
A delegation of Citizens for whom Mr.2aylor and
Mr.W.H.Beckwith were spokesmen, after asking for
various information relative the Town' s Financial
Affairs , and considerable discussion with the Mayor,
asked the Council to adopt a resolution restricting
themselves to not pay any bill for any purpose what-
ever, excepting Street Lights, in excess of Fifty
Dollars unless, the bills were first submitted to
the Voters, on a referendum vote.
Mayor Renwick explained to the Citizens that tl'e
cost of holding an election alone would amount to
more than Fifty Dollars, and therefore the Council
would not consent to such restrictions , self imposed.
No written complaints were filed with the Council,
concerning the discussions named above. After declinirg
to adopt the resolution proposed by Mrs.D.F.Ellwanger,

and supported by Mr.Roy Mathewson, requesting the Council
to restict themselves to expenditures of sums of Bless than
Fifty dollars, except when submitted to a referendum vote
of the people, Mayor Renwick stated that any information
concerning the operation of the Town' s affairs was avail-

Clerk, either at his office in the V.I .A. Fall, or at his
home.
Neither of the resolutions,which the spokesmen,named
• heretofore in these minutes, were filed with the Council,
After every Citizen present had been given an opportunity
to speak before the Council regarding any matter proper to
come before that body, Councilman H.P .Wilkinson, made motion
to adjourn. The Motion was seconded by Councilman T.J.Francis
and Council adjourned sinie die.
