MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING OF THE TOWN COUNCIL
OF THE TOWN OF EDGEWATER, VOLUSIA COUNTY, FLORIDA
HELD IN THE V. I . A. HALL WEDNESDAY MARCH 21, 1934.
Meeting was called to order by Mayor-Councilman F. R. Renwick
at 7:35 P. M.

READING OF MINUTES
Minutes of the regular meeting of the Town Council
held March 7 , 1934 were read and approved on motion made by
Councilman E. A. Ely, seconded by Councilman H. P. Wilkinson.
COMMUNICATIONS
CATIONS
Resolution of the Citizens Committee of Edgewater,
signed by W. Y. Bigelow, Chairman, was read by E. H. Lohman
Clerk, wherein said committee requests;
1. That time warrants issued for the purpose of
paying the Hill Dredging Corp*n. : 4,000.00 be cancelled;
2. That the Town Council authorize S. U. Gillespie
attorney, to appear on behalf at the Town at no expense to
the Town, in defending the suit of the Hill Dredging Corp*n.
3. That F. R. Renwick, Mayor-Councilman, and H. P.
Wilkinson, Councilman, tender their resignations.
4. That the Town Council go on record definitely as
to the matters presented by the Citizens Committee, and that
fair consideration and suitable action be taken without any
further and unnecessary delay.
Motion was made by Councilman H. P. Wilkinson, seconded by
Councilman E. A. Ely, that above resolution be filed with
the Town Clerk.

None.
REPORTS OF OFFICERS.
Mayor-Councilman F. R. Renwick reported that necessary
switch ties needed for the repitrs to the Knapp Avenue bridge
had so far been un-obtainable, but that he had been working to
get same , and that he expected that he would be able to get
therm in the near future.
Mayor-Councilman F. R. Renwick reported that the tools
awned by the Town were unserviceable in their present condition
having been loaned to the C. W. A. while they were working on
the Canal known as the Gabardy Canal. It was his suggestion
that the officials of the C. W. A. be contacted to ascertain
if they would not repair and replace the broken tools.

REPORTS OF SPECIAL COMMITTEES .
Mayor-Councilman P. R. Renwick reported that no speed
restrictions were being observed by many motorists on the high-
ways and that the Sheriff' s office in Deland had been notified
and requested to make a check of the speed violators. Attorney
Rasco was promised the necessary protection from the Sheriff' s
office at once.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS.
Clerk E. H. Lohman reported that he had exchanged
the original 45,000 Swift & Company's stock, held as security
on Bank deposits with the Atlantic National Bank of Daytona
Beach, for $3,000 of U. S. Treasury Bonds 18238, 18239, & 18240.
NEW BUSINESS.
Mayor-Councilman F. R. Renwick suggested that the
office hours for the Town Clerk for the purpose for collecting
taxes, and for giving the taxpayers the maximun opportunity for
paying their taxes before same became delinquent, be changed as
follows; Monday March 26 to Friday March 30 office hours from
2:00 P. M. to 5:00 P. M., Saturday March 31 9:00 A. M. to 12:00
noon and from 2:00 P. Iii. to 6:00 P. M. Motion was made by
Councilman H. P. Wilkinson and seconded by Councilman E. A. Ely
and clerk instructed to observe the above mentioned office hours
ML SCELLANEOUS.
MAY0R4Councilman F. R. Renwick called attention that
the contract with the Town Attorney G. 0. Rasco expired March
21st. Mr. Rasco being present excused himself in order that
a full opportunity be afforded to the Council to discuss the
matter of selecting an attorney for the ensuing year. Council-
man H. P. Wilkinson stated that in his opinion that this was
not the proper time to change attorneys on account of his
familiarity with the existing conditions of the Town. Councilman
E. A. Ely raised objection stating that he was representing the
wishes of two thirds of the taxpayers and that he could not
consistently support the selection of Mr. Rasco's further services
• but that he held no ill will whatsoever against ir. Rasco an an
individual. On motion made by Councilman-H. P. Wilkinson to
retain the services of T,1 . Rasco at $ 100 for the ensuing year
ending March 21st, 1935,and seconded by Mayor-Councilman F. R.
Renwick roll call was as follows;

Councilman H. P. Wilkinson Yes
Councilman E. A. Ely No.
Mr. Rasco was selected to serve the Town for the coming year.
11:r. E. A. Lembeck, one of the taxpayers stated that
inharmony in the Council should be overcome as when such con-
ditions exist the taxpayers are the ultimate losers.
There being no further business it was moved by Council
man E. A. Ely and seconded by Councilman H. P. Wilkinson that
the meeting be adjourned. Motion carried and meeting adjourned
at 9:20 P. M. p
