READING OF MINUTES
Minutes of the regular meeting of the Town Council held
June 6 , 1934 were read, and approved on motion made by Councilman
E.A.Ely, seconded by Mayor-Councilman P.R.Renwick.
CO MICATIONS
Clerk read letter received by Mayor-Councilman. F.R.Renwick
from Lorenzo A.Wilson, Chairman of he Florida World's Fair
Conanittee inviting all Florida Mayors to a meeting to be held in
Jacksonville June 22 for the purpose of finding a way to continue
the Florida Ehhibit at the Chicago Worldts Fair. Mayor-Councilial
F.R.Renwick stated that there had been no money appropriated by
this town for that purpose but that he would answer the letter.
Clark read communications from the State Road Department
relative to bill presented to them for removal and use of shell
w::_ich had been placed at the expense of the Town near the Strand
Boulevard. State Road department having used this sand and shell
in repairing fill on Dixie Hiway at the Canal.
BILLS ADD ACCOUNTS
Following bills were presented by the clerk: New Smyria Num
$3:50 for 1000 delinquent tax sale certificates; E.A.Ely $3.10 fro
Jabot working on roads and -bridges; Bond-Howell Lumber Co. $2:24
for lumber used in reparing bridges. Checks nuubers 1475 and 1476
were issued on the first two bills respectively but no check was •
issued to the Bond Howell Lumber Company on account their state: t
rents being presented the first of the month with a two per cent
discount if paid prior to the tenth. Bills and warrants were
approved by motion of Mayor-Councilmman F.R.Renwick, seconded by
Councilman E.A.Ely.
UNFINISHED' BUSINESS
Attorney Rasco reported that the suit brought against the
Town by the Hill Dredging Corporation had been indefinitely postponed
in. the Federal Court.
Attorney Rasco made a report on the question of tax refund due
the T wn from the fifth County Co,imissioners district , stating that
he was doing all he could to avoid a suit to recover the monies, but
that he was ready to start suit unless an amicable settlement could
be made within a reasonable time.
NEW BUSINESS
Mayor Councilman F.R.Renwick reported that owing to torrential
rains recently the bridge on Knapp Avenue had swayed somewhat and was
not now safe for travel.
Mayor-Councilman suggested that Councilman E.A.Ely inspect the
South end of Strand road and repair that part which needs repairs.
Councilman Ely reported that previously objections were raised by Mrs.
Platt that she •would not allow shell to be removed from in front of
her premises. Attorney Rasco defined riparian rights and explained
that the property owners had no control over the sand and shell which
had been pumped in, in front of their property by the Hill Dredging
Corporation.
