Minutes of Regular Meeting of the Town Council of EDGEWATER
Volusia County, Florida, held in V.I.A. Hall December 15, 1936.
Meeting called to order at 7.50 P.M. by Mayor-Councilman
C.D.Bartlett.
Roll Call:

Attorney Allen Smith. Present.
Reading of Minutes:
The minutes of the regular meeting of Dec. 1st and those of
the adjourned meeting of Dec. 2nd were read. Upon Motion by
Mr. Adams , seconded by Mr. Haughton the minutes of these
two meetings were approved as read. Carried.
Communications.
A letter was read from the Southeastern Management Company
( Greyhound Lines ) dated Dec. 12 in reply to the Clerk' s letter
of Dec. 9th advising as to Police Regulations.
Bills and Accounts.
Bills were presented as follows:

Mr. Haughton moved that the bills be paid as read, seconded by
Mr. Adams and upon vote the motion was declared carried.
Resolution:
A resolution providing for the payment of a Fee of
twenty-five ($25.00 ) dollars to the Town Marshall for the
arrest and conviction of each person for the offense of larceny
or pilfering or breaking and entering was introduced by Mr.
Adams and upon motion duly made and seconded by Mr. Haughton
it was accepted as readandordered made a part of these minutes.
Carried.
Unfinished Business.
Mr. Haughton moved that the Town pay the $15.26
addiontal required to obtain a Tax Deed for the lots-North of
the V.I.A.Hall. Seconded by Mr. Adams and upon vote declared
carried.

Mr. Adams moved that the amount of ; 5.80 paid in the Town Court
Case of TOWN of EDGEWATER vs. J.M.McKee be accepted in lieu of
the fine of #10.00 imposed and that the Clerk be instructed to
close the case. Upon second by Mr.Haughton and avote it was declared
carried.
New Business
Mr. Haughton moved that the Clerk be authorized to pay from the
Permanent Improvement Fund the Town' s Note of 500.00 held by
the First Atlantic National Bank together with the accured interest
to date of payment. After seond by Mr. Adams and a vote the Motion
was declared carried.
A discussion as to the improvement of the Strand with Federal Aid
resulted in the appointment of Mr. .Adams as a committee of oneto
see Mr. Battle of the Planning Board.
Mr. Henshaw Chief of the New Smyrna Fire Department was then intro-
duced and gave information as to the advantages and benefits to be
derived by the formation of a Volunteer Fire Department in
Edgewater. He advised that the average Volunteer Dept. paid the
men who answered the alarms and were used at the rate of 01 .00 for
day and #1 .50 for the night fires. Also that the National
Underwriters gave credit for a city employee being head of the
Volunteer Fire Dept.
Mr. Adams moved that the Marshall be appointed as Chief hf the
EDGEWATER VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT and that he proceed to solict
a number of men to act as volunteers. Seconded by Mr. Haughton
and upon vote declared carried.
Moved by Mr. Adams, seconded by Mr. Haughton that we do now
adjourn. Carried. Time 9. 10 P.M.
