07-21-1938 - Tax Equalization Board FETING OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF EDGE `ATER, FLORIDA, AS A BOARD OF EQUILIZATION HELD IN V.I .A.HALL ON JULY 21st , 1938. Meeting called to order at ng 7:30 P.M. by Mayor Councilman H.L.Haughton. ROLL CALL. Mayor Councilman H .L.Haughton Present. Councilman Ralph Adams. Present. Councilman C .D.Bartlett. Absent. Clerk tralter C.Fuller Present. Attorney J.U.Gillespie. Present. Marshall T .A.Swann Present. The purpose of the meeting was read by the Clerk as follows; "Notice is hereby given that the Town Council of the Town of Edgewater, Florida, will meet, with the Town Clerk of Said Town, and sit as an Equilization Board at the Council Chamber in the V.I .A.Hall, Edgewater, Florida, on Thrusday, the 21st day of July, 1938, at the hour of 7:30 P .M. , for the purpose of hearing complaints and receiving testimony as to the value of anyproperty,real or personal, RS fixed by the. Town Clerk of said Town acting as Assessor thereof, and for the purpose of perfecting, reviewing and equalizing the said assessment, and that said Council will coantinue. in session for that purpose from day to day for one week, or as long as shall be necessary, and for the hearing appeals for Homestead Exemption." B.C .Forte appeared before the Board in reference to the Application of D.P.De Berry far Homestead Exemption on Lot 11 Excl. East 79' G.Alvarez Grant. The Assessor stated that this Application had been disapproved for the reason that the applicant was not the owner of the property at the time the application was filed. The Board refered the matter to the Attorney who advised that a Homestead Exemption was not transferable, Joseph Hewitt appeared before the Board in reference to his application for Homestead Exemption on the 'west half of Lot 1 Colby Jepson Sub. The Board after hearing Mr. Hewitt ruled that he was not a bonafide. resident of the State of Florida and therefore could not be granted the Exemption. R.C.Huettich, E.H.Lohman, V.C .Feller and Mrs. Ann C .Ellwanger appeared before the Board requesting information as to the Valuations placed on their respective properties. There were no objections except in the case of Mr. Feller who thought that is properties were too high. The Board however ruled that they were in line with surrounding properties. Upon motion made by Councilman Adams, seconded by Councilman Haughton, the Board adjourned until July 22nd, 1938 at 7:30 P .M. Upon vote the motion was declared CARRIED. Time 8:20 P.M.
