READING OF MMNUTES .
The minutes of the regular meelTing held September 20th, 1938 , were read
and upon motion made by Councilman Adams , seconded by Councilman Haughton,
were accepted as read. Upon vote the motion was declared CARRIED.

Councilman Adams moved that these Bills be accepted as read and that
they be paid and made a part of the minutes , seconded by Councilman Haughton
and by vote declared CARRIED.
REPORTS OF OFFICERS .
The Clerk read a Cash Statement and a report on Budget Appropriations
for the period September 1, 1938 to September 30th, 1938 and an Annual 'Report
for the Fiscal Year Begining October 1, 1937 and ending September 30th, 1938.
Councilman Adams moved that these reports be approved and made a part of these
minutes, seconded by Councilman Haughton, and by vote declared CARRIED.

The Clerk read letters from Hew Smyrna Post No. 17 dated Sept. 24, 1938.
and from Pentlandand Robertson dated Sept. 26 and 28th, 1938.

BUSINESS .
Councilman Adams Moved that the Clerk pay to the Bank of New Smyrna
the sum of228.90 for the purchase of a Certificate of Deposit dated
October 1st , 1938 and payable September 30th, 1939 with interest at 20 peru
annum. The amount of ws228.9O be to drawn from the Permanent Improvement
Funds. This motion was seconded by Councilman Haughton and by vote declared
unanimously CARRIED.
The Clerk reported that the 1938 Assessment Roll with the extension of
Taxes carried out thereon based upon the ::illeage set by Council, based
upon Ordinance NO. 77 and set opposite the properties assessed, for the
year 1938 , duly certified and consisting of Pages l .to 33 inclusive; it
was thereupon moved by Councilman Adams , seconded by Councilman -Houghton,
that the said Tax Assessment Roll be confirmed and approved and that the
Tax Collector proceed to collect out of the Real and Personal Property
shown thereon, the amount of the Taxes shown thereon, as provided by the
Laws of the :estate. of Florida and the Ordinances of the Town of EDGE`<.A' ER.
Upon vote. this motion was declared unanimously CARRIED.
Councilman Adams moved that the Clerk post a Notice that Council will
meet ofi. October 20th, 1938 at the hour of 7:30 P.M. to receive the petitions
of Candidates for the offices of Town Councilman and Town Clerk, seconded
by Councilman Haughton, and by vote declared CARRIED. A copy of said Notice
forms a part of. these minutes.
Councilman Adams moved that the Clerk post a Notice. that the Town.
Registration Books are now open and will be kept open until the 29th day
of October for the registration of electors, sceonded by Councilman Haughton
and by vote declared CARRIED. A copy of said hotice forms a part of these
minutes.
The Mayor at this time gave the privilege of the floor to -Mr. Perry
Chapman and Fire Chief :Ienshaw of New Smyrna. They requested for the hew
Smyrna Post No. 17 of the American Legion a donation to help defray the
expenses of an Arinstice Day Celebration to be held on ?':ovemberrll, 1D38.
After a considerable discussion of the objects of the celebration it was
moved by Councilman Adams, seconded by Councilman}; Haughton, that a
donation of . 25.00 be made to New Smyrna Post No . 17. Upon vote the motion
was declared unanimously CARRIED.
At this time Horace King announced that he was a candidate for the
office of Town Councilman and ',alter C .Fuller announced that he was a
candidate for the office of Town Clerk.
Councilman Adams moved that we do now adjourn, seconded by Councilman
Haughton, and by vote declared CARRIED. Time 3:45 P .M.

During the Fiscal Year Begining October 1, 1937 and ending September
30th, 1938, the Clerk has handled the following;
Thirty one Building Permits amounting in value to approximately
: 13,000.
One Hundred forty-six Drivers Licenses and one duplicate to replace
one lost.
Seventy five Occupational Licenses including seven J;ine and Beer License
One Hundred seventythree :Totices to clean Lots requiring Twenty-five Lot
Cleaning Bills and the making, serving by correspondence and recording of
fifteen Lot Lien Notices.
Forty-six Cases were recorded in the Mayors Court Docket.
In the matter of the Collection of Delinquent Taxes by the Towns Attorney
264 separate items of property were figured for the amount of delinquent
taxes , interest and costs due to october 1, 1938. In many cases these taxes
dated back to the first Tax Sale held after the Town of Ed#ewater was in-
corporated, I .E. June 7, 1926.
rwo hundred seventy-seven Tax Receipts were issued in the collection of
the Tax Roll and 10 Tax Sale Certificates sold at the Sale of June 6, 1938.
In the collection of Delinquent Taxes 77 receipts were issued.
