FLORIDA, HELD IN V.I .A. HALL ON
JANUARY 16, 1940.
Meeting called to order at 7:30 P .M. by Mayor Councilman F.R.Renwick.

READING OF MINUTES .
The minutes of the meeting of January 2, 1940 were read whereupon Councilman
Bartlett moved that these minutes be approved as corrected, seconded by
Councilman Goodyear and by vote declared CARRIED.

Councilman Goodyear moved that the bills be approved as read, paid and be
made a part of these minutes , seconded by Councilman Bartlett and by vote
declared CARRIED.
OFFICERS REPORTS.
The Clerk reported the Sale of Lot 2, Block B, Section 2, Highland Shores
Sub. under contract to purchase with : 82.50 payable upon signing of contract
the balance of 82.50 payable in monthly payments of U10.00 with interest
at 6% on unpaid monthly balance.
Councilman Bartlett moved that the Attorney draw a contract , that the mayor
be authorized to sign the contract, the Clerk to deliver a copy to T.C.Brown
upon the receipt of the payment of 482.50 and that the Sale of Lot 2,
Block B, Section 2, Highland Shores Sub. to T .C.Brown under contract be
confirmed and approved, sceonded by Councilman Goodyear and by vote declared
CARRIED.
The Clerk reported having made an inventory of Office Fixtures and record
Books and submitted this inventory to Council in accordance with their
request of January 2, 1940.
Councilman Goodyear moved that the Inventory be approved and be made a part
of these minutes , seconded by Councilman Bartlett and by vote declared CARRIED
The Clerk reported on those Lots owned by the Town of Edgewater upon which
State and County Taxes should be paid before April 1940. Council asked that
the Clerk and Attorney check this list and report at. the next meeting.

The Clerk read the Marshall' s Inventory of Tools and Machine Equipment
owned by the Town of Edgewater.
Councilman Bartlett moved that this Inventory be approved and be made a part
of these minutes , seconded by Councilman Goodyear and by vote declared CARRIED
The Marshal reported that the Petition for changing the Name of the Strand
had not been completed as there were a number of people still to see. Also
that the speed limit sign at the North end of Ridgewood. Ave. was down due to
one of the supporting posts having rotted away.
ORDINANCES .
Ordinance No. 85 entitled " AN ORDINANCE DECLARING SUTTON PLACE TO BE A
PUBLIC STREET OR THOROUGHFARE IN THE TOWN OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, AND NAMING
SAID STREET ." was read in full.
Councilman Goodyear moved that Ordinance No. 85 be passed upon first reading,
seconded by Councilman Bartlett and by vote declared CARRIED.
Councilman Goodyear moved that the requirement of second reading be waived
and that Ordinance No. 85 be placed upon final passage , seconded by Council-
man Bartlett and by vote declared unanimously CARRIED.
Thereupon Ordinance No. 85 was passed and adopted the vote of the Council
being as follows;
Mayor Councilman F.R.Renwick. Yes.
Councilman C.D.Bartlett. Yes.
Councilman W.'T'.Goodyear. Yes.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS.
A Petition to name a street in the Colby and Jepson Subdivision "SUTTON PLACE
was received and ordered made a part of these minutes.
The roofing of the Itecreation Building was discussed at lenght, with prices
quoted by Mr. Grant Gonyeau.
Councilman Bartlett moved that Grant Gonyeau be given the order for 14.4
Squares of No. 29 Gauge Galvanized interlocking Roofing and 35' of Ridge Roll
at a price of 4,74.35 delivered to the building and a further amount of V7.00
for putting the roofing in place on the building and that the Clerk is hereby
authorized to draw a check in the amounk of 01.35 to pay for material and
labor, seconded by Councilman Goodyear and by vote declared CARRIED.
NEW BUSINESS .
Councilman Goodyear requested information as to proceedure in applying for
permits to keep bees which was supplied.
A discussion of rates paid to labor by the Town brought out the opinion that
the operatives of machines should be paid a higher rate. A discussion as to
the costs of grading the streets was ended by a statement from Councilman
Bartlett that he would be in favor of calling for bids on the grading and
draging of the Streets.
An order was given C.Vr.Rowsam to replace a floor board in the landing floor
of the stirs to the second floor of the V.I .A.Hall.
Councilman Bartlett moved that the Clerk purchase Six (6) "Dump No Trash"
signs at a cost not to exceed 41.10 each, seconded by Councilman Goodyear and
by vote declared CARRIED.
AISSCELLANEOUS BUSINESS .
Councilman Bartlett reported that the McLaughlin house had been entered and
that Boys with Sling Shots were breaking windows and also stealing oranges.
He was unable to give names or places , whereupon Mayor Renwick asked that
the Citzens co-operate with the lay enforcement Officers of the Town by call&-
in.g either the Mayor or the Marshall and reporting any such cases.
Councilman Goodyear moved that we do now adjourn, seconded by Councilman
Bartlett and by vote declared CARRIED. Time 9: 30 P.M.
