READING OF MINUTES .
The minutes of the meeting of July 16, 1940 were read whereupon Councilman
Bartlett moved that they be approved as read, seconded by Councilman Renwidc
and by vote declared CARRIED.
The minutes of the meeting of August 6, 1940 showing roll call, lack of
quorm and adjourment to August 7 , 1940 were read and approved.

Councilman Bartlett moved that the bills be approved as read, be paid and
be made a part of these minutes , seconded by Councilman Renwick and by
vote declared CARRIED.

The Cler /a Cash Statement and Statement of Budget Appropriations for the
period July 1 to July 31, 1940. Councilman Bartlett moved that these
reports be approved and be made a part of these minutes , seconded by
Councilman Renwick and by vote declared CARRIED.
The Clerk reported that Town Tax Sale Certificate No. 437 of the Sale of
June 5, 1939 was a lien on Town Owned Lots 6 and 7 Edgewater Highlands
Sub. and that this Certificate had been issued after the Foreclosure
Proceedings Suit had been filed.
The Marshall reported that the Strand needed scrapping, that the Fire
Siren had been painted and protected against birds entering it and that
the shell spread on the Streets had in it numerous conck shells which
were dangerous to auto tires.

Attorney Gillespie reported the receipt of a . letter from the American Oil
Company in reference to their Taxes in reply to his letter and that he
would advise them. further.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS.
A Resolution in reference to the cancelation of Town of Edgewater Tax
Sale Certificate No. 487 of the Sale of June 5, 1939 was read in full.
Councilman Bartlett moved the adoption of the Resolution, seconded by
Councilman Renwick and, passed the vote of the Council being as follows:
Mayor Councilman F.R.Renwick. Yes.
Councilman. C.D.Bartlett. Yes .
A copy of the resolution forms a part of these minutes .
A Resolution tranSferipg the sum of $100.00 from the Special Delinquent
Tax Fund to the Street Fund was read in full.
Councilman Bartlett moved the adoption of the resolution, seconded by
Councilman Renwick and passed the vote of the Council being as follows:

Councilman C .D .Bartlett. Yes .
A copy of the resolution forms a part of these minutes.
NEW BUSINESS .
The Clerk reported a TENTATIVE BUDGET FOR THE YEAR October 1 , 1940 to
September 30 , 1941.
Councilman Bartlett moved that the Tentative Budget be accepted, adopted,
be made a part of these minutes and four copies posted as required by law,
seconded bj: Councilman Renwick and by vote declared unanimously CARRIED.
A copy of the notice posted on August 10th, 1940 forms a part of these
minutes.
Attorney Gillespie submitted to Council a proposal for a lump settlement
of . 60.00 in lieu of the 10% commission allowed by Council for the collect-
ion of Delinquent Taxes .
Councilman Bartlett moved that the Attorney be paid . 50.00 out of the Spec-
ial Delinquent Tax Fund in lieu of the balance of the 10 commission agreed
upon by motion passed at meeting of September 20 , 1938 and this payment to
be in full for all attorney fees due in the collection of said delinquent
taxes and the Foreclosure Suit, seconded by Councilman Renwick and by vote
declared unanimously CARRIED.
Councilman Bartlett moved that the motion passed at the meeting af May 21,
1940 authorizing the trade of Lot 28, Block D , Sec. 1, Highland Shores Sub.
for the E . 141' of the N. 187' of Lot 39-F to Robert Houston be rescinded ,
Houston being present and signifing his WillingnessJthat such action be
i46 rescinded , seconded by Councilman Renwick and by vote declared CARRIED.
Councilman Bartlett moved that the Mayor and the Clerk be authorized to
sign a contract of purchase with (Hrs.) Pauline Brewer for the property
desciibed as the E. 141' of the N. 187t of Lot 39-F, Ass' rs Sub. of G.
Alvarez Grant, at price of 1;50.00 Payable $10.00 down and the balance in
monthly payments of :40.00 , 6% interest oti the unpaid balance , seconded by
Councilman Renwick and by vote declared CARRIED.
Councilman Bartlett moved that the Attorney and Clerk draw up the proper
resolution to cancel Town of Edgewater tax Sale Certificates Nos. 831 of .
the Sale of June 2 , 1930 and 245 of the Sale of July 2, 1934 with Sub-
sequent Taxes to 1939 , seconded by Councilman Renwick and by vote declared
Councilman Bartlett moved that the Clerk be authorized to the pay the State
and County Taxes and acquire the Certificates on Lots 8 , Bl.B Sec.l; 12 and
13, Ble B, Sec.2; 9 ,11,14 and 15, Bl.B ,Sec.2;1,3,6,7 and 10 , Bl. C , Sec.2;
8 , Bl.D,Sec.2; 446, and 7, BL.E , See. 2; seconded by Councilman Renwick and

August 7 , 1940.

Mr. Kay Lofton complained about the water on Park Ave, at the drainage
ditch. The road was covered and it was suggested that shell be placed
on the road to raise the level. Marshall King was questioned as to
obtaining cross ties to build up the banks at the sides of the road.
Mr. T.C.Brown complained about the removal of the electric light stand-
ard in front of his property in Highland Shires Sub. After an exlana-
tion as to the ownership of these light standards was agreed that the IT
Tiwn could do nothing and that it was a matter to be settled between the
property owner and Mr. A.'j .Barnhart who claimed to be the owner of these
light standards.
Attorney Gillespie was requested to write A.S.Barnhart and have him remove
the concrete foundations from which the light standards were removed.
Councilman Brtlett moved that we do now adjourn, seconded by Council-
man Renwick and by vote declared CARRIED. Time 9:34 P.M.
