The minutes of the meeting of April 15, 1941 were read whereupon Council- man Southard moved that they be approved as read, seconded by Councilman Renwick and by vote declared CARRIED. BILLS AND ACCOUNTS. Total 6.00 Frank M.Carr, Refund on License 3.75 Councilman Southard moved that the bills be approved, be paid and be made a part of these minutes, sedanded by Councilman Renwick and by vote declared CARRIED. REPORTS OF OFFICERS . Mayor Renwick reported that Constable A.D.Fussell would stop following the School Bus thru Edgewater in accordance with the request of Edgewater Citzens A letter was read from Ben Smith accepting offer of $15.00 each for six Indian Fire Fighters provided that cash was paid on delivery. Letter was dated April 26th, 1941 and specified immediate acceptance. Councilman Southard moved that the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to purchase Six(6) Indian Fire Fighters at a cost of $90.00, the tanks to be of Brass , and that this amount be taken from the Special Foreclosed Property Fund, seconded by Councilman Renwick and by vote declared CARRIED. Mayor Renwick further reported the receipt of aletter dated April 21, 1941, from Representative J.U.Gillespie suggesting that the Strand in Edgewater be included in a list of additional roads in Volusia County to be designated as State Roads , if such met with the approval of the people of Edgewater. There were present the following Citzens John Baumgartner, T.C.Ryan,F.C .Cory, Joseph H.e witt ,T .0?Brown,J.S .Bates ,'r:.A.Allen,R.C.Baker,H.P.Alkinson,David McGinnis ,Robert E.Fuller. After considerable discussion among those present it was decided withdraw any support to a project to desiginate the Strand thru Edgewater as a State Road and the Mayor was requested to write James V.Doyle, Deputy Clerk and .F.Swoope , Mayor of New Smyrna Beach, and Representative J.U.Gillespie to record the decision reached. .- Minutes May6, 1941. Page 2. OFFICERS REPORTS . Continued. The Mayor further reported upon the functions of the Defense Council and of the various committees appointed; he also reported that he had received a copy of a report of the State Recreational Board which covered the activies in Edgewater. The Clerk read his reports for the period ApriA to 30th showing a Cash Statement and a Statement of Budget Appropriations . Councilman Southard moved that the reports be approved and be made a part of these rtlinutes,seconded by Councilman Renwick and by vote declared CARRIED . The Clerk also reported that as Tax Collector he would hold the Tax Sale of 1940 Delinquent Taxes on June 2, 1941 at 12 O' clock noon at the front door of the V.I .A. Hall. Marshall King reported on continued efforts as to removal of Fish House at end of Strand and on the size of the Culvert under Park Ave. at the Old County Road. He also reported that the ditch North from Park Ave. was stoped up North of Highland Shores and that now it was a breeding place for mosquitoes. After a discussion it was decided that dlayor Renwick would see Mayor Swoope Chair- man of the mosquito Control Board to ascertain what form of easement they would require before doing any work on drainage ditches. T .C.Brown reported on the condition at the East end of New Hampshire Ave. He estimated about 12 loads to be hauled in to remedy the present condition. Councilman Southard moved that T .C .Brown be employed for 5 Days with truck at $4.61 per day to complete the East end of New Hampshire Ave. , seconded by Councilman Renwick and by vote declared CARRIED. REPORTS OF COMMITTEES . Attorney Herbert Fuller reported that it would not be necessary at this time to enact a Sanitary Code but that the Council should appoint a Sanitary Inspec tor to inspect all new septic tanks to see that they were installed in ac- cordance with the State Board of Health' s requirements . The Attorney was re- quested to draw an Ordinance requiring a permit to install septic tanks and make them subject to the Sanitary Inspectors Inspection. Attorney Puller also reported that a bill to Validate the Acts of the Town Council had been forwarded to Representative Gillespie. George O .Gunthrop reported on the Organization Meeting of the Recreational Board at which Mrs. E .J.Ai1lcox was elected Chairman. Mr. Gunthrop further reported that the lot at the North West corner of Park and Flagler had been inspected and that it would serve well for a ball dia- mond. Mayor Renwick was to write for permission from the owner to use this lot and Council agreed to pay for the gas and oil for the mower to cut the weeds, if permission was obtained. COMMUNICATIONS. Aletter dated April 15, 1941 from R.E.L.Chancey was read in reference to House Bill No. 65. UNFINISHED BUSINESS . Councilman Southard moved that the Clerk notify owners of advertising signs located on properties,where the owners of such properties have given the Town permission to enter on their properties, to remove such signs within ten days or the Town will remove such signs and dispose of the signs as the Town may elect, seconded by Councilman Renwick and by vote declared CARRIM. Councilman Southard moved that as the condition of Lot 6, Wilkinson Sub. and Lot described. as "West 50' of Lot 4-M, Ass' rs Sub. of G.Alvarez Grant are a nuisance, that proper notice has been served upon the owners ,all in accord- ance with Art. 14, sec. 1 and 2 of Ord. No. 75, that the Marshall be author- ized to abate tilt nuisance after May 12th if the same still exists ,seconded by Councilman Renwick and by vote declared CARRIED. • i `err Minutes of May 6, 1941, Page 3. NEW BUSINESS. Councilman Southard moved that the Clerk be authorized to refund to Frank M.Carr Three Dollars and Seventy—five cents( 3.75) being an overpayment on a rooming house lincense, seconded by Councilman Renwick and by vote declared CARRIED. Due to a complaint the question of the removal of a large tall dead pine tree located on lot 5, Block F, Section 2 , Highland Shores Sub, was discussed. It was brought out that the trees condition was dangerous to adjoining properties. Councilman Southard and Attorney Fuller were appointed a committee to investigate and report.
