11-17-1992 CITIZENS COUNCIL ADVISORY COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING November 17, 1992 Minutes ROLL CALL Janet Ptaszek Absent James Mackie Present Charlene Dennis Present Shirley Roberts Absent Delores Cucanich Present Charles Gebelein Present Patricia Montrowl Absent APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Gebelein made two corrections: Page 1, last paragraph; instead of "he spoke to one local pastor" it should read that "he spoke to several pastors at one time" . Page 2, regarding the meeting room, it should read "they should be able to meet in the main conference room" . Mrs. Dennis moved to approve the minutes. Mrs. Cucanich seconded the motion. Motion CARRIED 4-0. OLD BUSINESS Community activity for the young people. There was no discussion regarding any new activities. Follow-up regarding construction of a pole building on 26 acre site. A letter from Mr. Corder, Parks & Recreation Director, was read by the members which explained that he is checking into this. NEW BUSINESS Chairman Gebelein brought the committee up to date on Council's action regarding the continuation of this committee. They are going to hold a workshop on this. He suggested there is no need for this committee to call a meeting in December. We should wait and see what the outcome is of the Council workshop. He suggested when the committee does meet again that another election of officers take place. He asked for comments from the board members on their opinions of the continuation of the committee. Mr. Mackie stated the committee is useless if the Council does not have projects for them to work on. Mrs. Cucanich asked what the committee has accomplished? Mrs. Dennis explained since she has been on board the committee worked on a tax assessment question and reported their findings to the Council. We also worked on getting the water testing done to determine whether swimming could be brought back at Menard May Park. She added that for the last few months we have been rehashing matters that really don't need to be on our agenda. Mr. Mackie agreed one hundred percent with Mrs. Dennis. He added that we were set up as a junior council to advise the Council and if we don't have anything to work on we should adjourn and reorganize when they have something for us. At this time there was miscellaneous discussion among the members regarding the committee's agendas, meetings and general purpose. Mr. Mackie voiced some complaints regarding the agendas and the way the committee meetings have been conducted. Y Chairman Gebelein reiterated the committee's accomplishments and pointed out one of the problems is lack of communication back to the Council regarding the committee's actions. He stated if we don't have a purpose, we should not exist; September was the last time items were given to the committee from the Council. At this time there were words between Mr. Mackie and Dr. Gebelein. Mr. Mackie excused himself from the meeting. Chairman Gebelein questioned Mr. Mackie's concerns. Mrs. Cucanich commented there is too much talk going on at the meetings and not enough action. We need to take action on items given to us and not just talk. Mrs. Dennis expressed her disenchantment with the route the com- mittee has been on lately. She stated she wants to serve in a productive capacity. ADJOURNMENT Mrs. Dennis moved to adjourn. Mrs. Cucanich seconded the motion. Meeting adjourned, 7: 50 p.m. Minutes submitted by: Debbie Sigler -2- Citizens Council Advisory November 17, 1992
