REGULAR MEETING
Minutes
January 10, 2013
6:30 P. M.
CALL TO ORDER:
Chairman Tipton called to order the regular meeting of the Recreation/Cultural Services Board at
6:30 p.m., Thursday, January 10, 2013, in the Council Chambers, 102 N. Riverside Drive.

Also present was Jack Corder, Director of Leisure Services, and Board Coordinator Barb
Kowall.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes from the Regular Meeting of October 25, 2012, were presented for approval.
MOTION by Mr. Zakaluzny. SECOND by Mr. Visconti to approve the minutes of the Re,-ular
Meetinz of October 25, 2012.
MOTION PASSED 4-0
OLD BUSINESS:
Mr. Tipton asked for an update on the Rotary Park Trail Head. Mr. Corder talked about the foot
bridge over 442 , explained it was out for bids on design and build and that construction should
start next fall. Mr. Corder stated he has applied for a grant to renovate Rotary Park, as the
County has approved Rotary as a Trail Head.
NEW BUSINESS:
"Name The Park" Contest
Mr. Corder said the County and City are engaged in a joint venture park at the corner of Tenth
St. and Ridgewood Ave. where the old Winn Dixie was. Storm water ponds are needed in this
area, and this will be a passive park with no parking lot. It was agreed between parties to hold a
contest to name this new park. Elementary school students will submit their choice and the
winner will receive a $50.00 savings bond. The Recreation Board will review and pick the 3 best
names, and it will then go to Council for the final winner.
Department Update
Mr. Corder informed the Board members of the following:
Bids for the Restrooms at Hawks Park are being piggy backed on W. Palm County.
Recreation Baseball is returning to the Leisure Services Dept.
As of January 1, the Animal Control Division is once again under the Police Department.
Due to bad weather, the First Friday Market has been re-scheduled to Jan. 18tH
Upcoming events include the Riverfest in March, A Car Show, and Earth Day event, Jammin in
the Park, and the Princess Ball at the YMCA.
MISCELLANEOUS
Ms. Sopko asked for input from the Board on Edgewater having their own Christmas Light
Decorating Contest next year. After discussion, the Board decided to discuss this further at the
next meeting and put together rules and a game plan for the next Christmas Season.
Mr. Tipton and Mr. Visconti both commented on the wonderful job at the Christmas Parade this
year. Both agreed it was the biggest and best ever.
