11-12-2009 CITY OF EDGEWATER RECREATION/CULTURAL SERVICES BOARD November 12, 2009 6:30 PM LEISURE SERVICES OFFICE 1108 S. RIDGEWOOD AVENUE MINUTES ROLL CALL/CALL TO ORDER Mr. Tipton called the meeting to order. Members present were, Debra Sopko, Mike Visconti, Tom Tipton and Joe Fishback. Also present was Jack Corder, Director of Leisure Services. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Mr. Visconti made a motion to approve the Minutes of the May 14, 2009 meeting and Mrs. Sopko seconded. Motion CARRIED 4-0. OLD BUSINESS Bid Opening of Amphitheater Mr. Corder stated the bids were opened for the amphitheater roof and will now go to Council for approval. The cost of the roof and installation will be $80,000.00. Mr. Corder said it will be a an aluminum roof and will meet the wind codes of 120 mph. He is hoping to have the completion date in early February. Mr. Tipton asked if the roof would be moveable and was told it was not. It is a roof only, no sides or back. Mr. Fishback asked if lights could be hung from the roof and Mr. Corder said yes and there is already 600 amp service in place. He then asked how many people you could fit around the amphitheater and Mr. Corder said he had talked with a media company and they estimated one to two thousand people. Mr. Corder was asked about the parking situation, and he replied they would use the YMCA lot and the school fields, which would be more than sufficient. Mr. Fishback inquired if there was an opening event planned and Mr. Corder said not at this time, but he was working with the media company to see what could be planned. NEW BUSINESS Christmas Parade Mr. Corder informed the Board that the 19th annual Christmas parade would be on Saturday, December 12th at 10 am in the same location as last year. The parade will line up at the land fill site on Air Park Road and proceed down Indian River Boulevard to the Winn-Dixie shopping center where it will disperse. Recreation/Cultural Services Bd. November 12,2009 Minutes 1 Department Update Mr. Corder stated that Kennedy Park had been completed a few months back and the roof for the amphitheater should be done in February. He said in the future he will be working on a design for Mango Lake Park out near the Public Works Department, however, he will have to wait till the economy improves and grants and funding become available. The city already owns this property and he would like to have a boardwalk around the west side of this 30 acre pond. He stated it will be a good addition to the city. He also informed the Board that the YMCA has a new Director, Laurie Denoff. MISCELLANEOUS Mr. Fishback asked what was being built on U.S. 1 just north of the Publix store and Mr. Corder said it was a Kennedy Credit Union. He also noted the project near the Majestic Oaks subdivision has been backed off on from the developer till the economy improves some.
