REGULAR MEETING
Minutes
April 11, 2013
6:30 P.M.
CALL TO ORDER:
Chairman Tipton called to order the regular meeting of the Recreation/Cultural Services Board at 6:30 p.m.,
Thursday, April 11, 2013, in the Council Chambers, 102 N. Riverside Drive.

Michael Visconti Present
Debra Sopko Present
Walt Zakaluzny Present
Also present was Jack Corder, Director of Leisure Services, and Board Coordinator Barb Kowall.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes from the Regular Meeting of January 10, 2013, were presented for approval.
MOTION by Mr. Visconti, SECOND by Ms. Sopko to approve the minutes of the Re,-ular Meetinz of
January 10, 2013.
MOTION PASSED 4-0
OLD BUSINESS:
Mr. Tipton asked for an update on the Rails to Trails project. Mr. Corder stated the trail should be started by
spring or early summer, with completion in about a year. It will be a 12 ft. wide asphalt path and includes a
walk over bridge at 442. Other projects coming from the south in the future will end in Edgewater also which
will be good for the City.
NEW BUSINESS:
"Name The Park" Contest
Elementary school students in Edgewater submitted their choices for naming the new park to be built on the
corner of 10th St. and U.S. 1. The winner will receive a $50.00 savings bond. The Recreation Board reviewed
and chose the three names that will be submitted to Council for a final vote. .
MOTION by Ms. Sopko, SECOND by Mr. Zakaluznv to submit the names, Gateway Park, Indian River Park
and City Line Park to Council to choose a final winner.
MOTION PASSED 3-1. Mr. Visconti voted No.
Christmas Light Decorating Contest
The Board opened discussion on several options for the rules and regulations of the Christmas Light Decorating
Contest. For example, how many categories, length of entry time, nomination process, what kind of award, etc.
The Board decided to come back to the next meeting with their lists to review and set guidelines.
Department Update
Mr. Corder spoke on the following:
The Restrooms/Concession building to be delivered tomorrow behind the Leisure Services office.
Success of the Business Expo.
Earth Day Festival coming up on April 20th at Hawks Park.
New Smyrna High School Band's "Jammin in the Park on May 4th at Hawks Park.
MISCELLANEOUS
Mr. Tipton commented on the wonderful job done at the Edgewater Expo this year. He also commented on
the good activities going on in the river for the public to enjoy.
