Box 489 Edgewater, FL 32132 Minutes A meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of Edgewater Retirement Board on May 08, 1998 was called to order at 2:00 p.m. at the Edgewater Community Center. Members present: Gary Conroy Ruth Garvey Fred Prekup, Sr. Also present: Sue Griffiths Larry Westfall Karen Rickelman Members absent: Bill Lenz Call to Order Chairman Gary Conroy called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. Approval of Minutes Mr. Prekup, Sr. made the motion to accept the minutes, as they were presented in writing, of the February 25th, 1998 meeting, Ruth Garvey seconded the motion, all members present approved. New Business Election of new board member Mr. Conroy explained that Mr. Glenn Barnhill's recent resignation from the board was due to family obligations asked all members to take a moment to review other applicants. After the perusal all members gave their choices for the position available. Upon discussing the following motion was made by Ruth Garvey, and seconded by Fred Prekup, Sr., approved unanimously. Motion: Offer Jeanne Delnigro the available position due to her interest in the police and fire departments. Purchase of Recorder Mr. Conroy requested the board discuss the purchase of a recorder for the pension meeting due '-' ...", to having to borrow the Criminal Investigations Departments recorder and the chances of it not being available. Following a brief discussion of the expense and storing of recorder the following motion was made by Ron Prekup and seconded by Ruth Garvey, approval unanimous. ,Motion: The board would purchase a recorder valued no more than fifty dollars and recording secretary would be in charge of storing and bringing to quarterly meetings. Old Business Communications from Board Attorney Mr. Conroy introduced Mr. Larry Westfall to all members. After a brief discussion of Mr. Westfalls situation stated that at this point in time the Pension Board Attorney has stated that anyone on disability does not pay taxes on this income. Mr. Conroy also stated the attorney will update the board on how current situation will be dealt with after discussions with representative of Principle Financial Group. During the discussion on disability pension Mr. Prekup mentioned that he felt the percentage paid was extremely low at 25 percent which other agencies in the immediate area were much higher ranging from 46 to 50 percent. Upon further discussion the following motion was made by Ron Prekup Sr., seconded by Ruth Garvey and unanimously approved by members. Motion: The chairman represent all members at the next city council meeting and make the council aware of the need to increase the percentage. Miscellaneous Upcoming FPPT A School Mr. Conroy mention that the next school being held is going to be in Ft. Lauderdale and suggested to the board that new members may gain knowledge of the who, what and why's of the pension boards purpose and function. After looking over the information provided on next school the following motions was made by Ms. Ruth Garvey seconded by Mr. Prekup and approved unanimously. Motion: The pension board send Mr. Prekup to the next FPPT A School in Ft. Lauderdale. Adjournment The following motion was made by Ron Prekup seconded by Ruth Garvey, unanimously approved. Motion: To adjourn the meeting with all topics discussed. Meeting adjourned by Gary Conroy at 2:49 p.m.
