City Hall MINUTES ROLL CALL/CALL TO ORDER The Chairman~ Mark Seifert~ called the August the Beautification Committee to order at Edgewater City Hall Conference Room. 20. 1990 meeting of 6:56 P.M. in the Members present were: Mark Seifert. Richard Loomis~ and Felicia Ver Way. Committee member Jodi Geiger was excused. Committee member John Antienowic2 was absent. Also present was A.J. Spangler~ 507 Sea Anchor Circle. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Mr. Loomis moved to approve the minutes of the July 10. 1990 meeting and Mrs. Ver Way seconded the motion. Motion CARRIED 3-0. OLD BUSINESS There was no old business to discuss on the agenda. Mr. Seifert asked Mr. Spangler if he had any comments or business to bring up. Mr. Spangler said that signs from stores that are out of business in the City should be painted over or covered because people that just move here or people that are visiting get confused and think these stores are open. Mr. Spangler also said that flowers should be planted in the medians and used State Road 40 leading into Ormond Beach as an example of how nice the roadways can look. Mr. Seifert explained that the City has applied for a grant from the State to beautify the medians and is still waiting for a reply. NEW BUSINESS September Beautification Award Choice The selections were tabulated for the September Beautification Award and the winning residence was 113 Rhode lsland Street. Mr. Loomis agreed to present the September Award sign. Future Policies and New Direction of the Beautification Committee Mr. Seifert stated the Beautification Committee is now a permanent committee and Council expressed they should continue on a strictly advisory basis. Mr. Seifert asked how long the commlttee members' terms were for as the Committee was originally set up on a temporary one year basis. The Secretary agreed to check the by laws and let them know at the next meeting. He placed on the garbage ., "'" Future Policies and New Direction of the Beautification Committee (cant'd) The Committee members discussed the possibility of a city-wide beautification week, which could work in coordination with the Public Works spring clean up. Ideas included a banner with the Beautification slogan placed on it to be hung in a public location, possibly painting CARE on the water tower, getting teachers and elementary students involved, and encouraging the citizens to become more involved with city clean up and beautification. Mrs. Ver Way asked if the Committee was going to do anything about the bumper stickers. Mr. Seifert suggested designing the banner and the bumper stickers alike. The Committee decided they would find out how much the bumper stickers and banners would cost. ADJ'OURNMENT There being no further business, Mrs. Ver Way moved to adjourn, seconded by Mr. Loomis.
