10-22-1991 fI . ..... ."", CITY OF EDGEWATER BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE TUESDAY, OCTOBER 22, 1991 7:00 P.M. CITY HALL CONFERENCE ROOM MINUTES ROLL CALL/CALL TO ORDER: The Vice Chairman, Felicia Ver Way, called the October 22, 1991 meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in the City Hall Conference Room. Members present were: Felicia Rossman, and Linda Sullivan. Corder arrived at 7:06 p.m. Recording Secretary. Ver Way, Tanina Palermo, Betty Michael Bressett was excused. Jack Also present was Lisa Kruckmeyer, APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Mrs. Rossman moved to 1991 meeting and Mrs. CARRIED 4-0. approve the minutes of the September 17, Sullivan seconded the motion. Motion NEW BUSINESS: Welcominq New Members Mrs. Ver Way welcomed Mrs. Sullivan to the Beautification Committee and stated she is happy she is with us. OLD BUSINESS: Preparation of Application for Tree City U.S.A. Mrs. Ver Way stated the Committee is waiting to get together with Jack to get the figures for the application for the Tree Committee. Mrs. Rossman stated the application has to be to Brad Johnson the first part of November. Mr. Herbert stated he had a video of the implorable condition in the Florida Shores shopping center. Mrs. Ver Way stated the Committee is in the middle of getting an application together for the Tree City U.S.A. and they would be happy to look at it and let Council see it and then get back to him. Mrs. Rossman stated Mr. Johnson had to have it the first part of November so he had enough time to go over it and make sure it was going to pass when he sent it on to Tallahassee. t1r. Corder have the November. stated he ordinance spoke to ready for the City Attorney and she would the first Council meeting in Mrs. Ver Way stated they have had their Arbor Day, and they have the tree ordinance and the proclamation. Mr. Corder stated he has the $2 per capita budget. Ver Way the broken down $2 per capita budget. He gave Mrs. Mrs. Ver Way asked who picks the members. Council does it. She passed around a Thank You card from Mrs. Stubbs. Mrs. Ver Way stated there was some discussion ceremony at the park at Lake and Alice to give the City Council to name this park Sapp Wilkes the two firemen who died in New Smyrna Beach. at the Arbor Day a suggestion to Park in honor of Mrs. Rossman stated Mr. Johnson stated anything that is planned for the future or anything that can be presented just makes it that much better and more to Edgewater's advantage. Mrs. Ver Way stated the Committee had a lot of good suggestions but didn't get too far because of the preparation for Tree City U.S.A. She stated after Tree City U.S.A. is done, she thinks they can sit down and discuss suggestions and different ideas. Mrs. Rossman stated everything seems to be falling in to place for Tree City U.S.A. Mrs. Ver Way stated if they don't get the application In on time, they will have to wait another year to resubmit it. Mrs. Ver Way stated she was going to ask Brad Johnson if there was some way they could get a copy of the video he showed to the Beautification Committee for the new members of the Tree Committee. Mrs. Palermo stated there was a notice in the newspaper that the City was going to pick up leaves and grass cuttings every Wednesday. She stated she has been back for three weeks and she has had branches and cuttings in her yard. She called Public Works and they said they are so busy picking up plastic bags. She stated Riverside Drive is inundated with piles and piles of debris. She stated she was going to call Mr. Overstreet. Mrs. Rossman asked if Beautification Award. with Zone 5. they were going to be doing the monthlv Mrs. Ver Way stated they would continue Mr. Corder left at 7:45 p.m. Mrs. Rossman stated she is very excited about Tree City U.S.A. Mrs. Ver Way stated she was too and it would really start giving an awareness to the people that the City is starting to do something. Mrs. Sullivan stated she hopes if we become the Tree City U.S.A. that someone will trim the lonely palm tree on U.S.A. near the City limits. Page 2 Beautification Committee October 22, 1991 I . ..... ....", Mrs. Rossman stated she thought the New Smyrna-Edgewater Chamber of Commerce is supposed to be working on the medians. Mrs. Ver Way stated they are applying for a grant to beautify U.S. #1. Both towns are going to try and apply together. Mrs. Sullivan stated there are people that have trees and pot them that would be willing to donate them. Mrs. Ver Way stated once we get the official banner we can move forward. She stated the Beautification Committee and Tree Committee will be able to work hand in hand on a lot of things. Mrs. Ver Way asked why they are the only committee that has a term of one year. Mrs. Palermo asked how they could change that. stated change the by-laws. Mrs. Sullivan Election of Chairman Mrs. Rossman nominated Mrs. Ver Way for Chairman, seconded by Mrs. Palermo. There being no further nominations, it was moved and seconded to close nominations. Motion CARRIED 4-0. Election of Vice Chairman Mrs. Palermo nominated Mrs. Rossman. can't. Mrs. Palermo stated she is too. Mrs. Sullivan, seconded by Mrs. Palermo. nominations, it was moved and seconded Motion CARRIED 4-0. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to discuss, Mrs. Sullivan made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Mrs. Rossman.
