Ms. Rossman stated there are a lot of things that are getting put
on the agenda for setting up Arbor Day. She stated maybe she
could divide it up among the board to help contact people. Ms.
Rossman stated she would take care of the publicity. Ms. Palermo
stated she would contact the clubs.
Mr. Roberts stated he could check on some trees that he can get
for under $25.
Ms. Sullivan stated the Committee should get an agreement with a
nursery for the Adopt a Tree Program and every tree that someone
wants to adopt we would buy for $25 and then we would find out
how much the plaque would be and then incorporate that price
together.
Ms. Sullivan stated Mr. Corder said you can't have trees but
she's been to Port Orange and Edgewater and there are trees. She
stated Jack might not have checked. She stated when Jack had the
blueprints there that was solid bushes and flowers and things.
When you go to to South Daytona and Port Orange its a clump on
each end and something in the middle.
Mr. Roberts stated you've got to think about the liability
standpoint. If you get a tree with too big a caliper and
someone runs into it then you are going to have a lawsuit to the
City. Oleanders and any bushes would be breakaway plants.

Mr. Roberts stated if you want to put them by signs you want a
more impressive tree. He stated he would just get a set amount
that is needed and then maybe three months from now then you can
do the Adopt a Tree Program and come up with a native plant. We
could work with a nurseryman and have him go around and plant
them.
Ms. Rossman stated if Ms. Sullivan wants to write the letter she
could but if there is something else she wants to do she can.
Ms. Sullivan stated Ms. Rossman should write the letter because
she spearheaded the Tree City. It should he incorporated

Chairman Ver Way stated they could work on the letter together.
Ms. Sullivan stated they definitely need to go native with the
trees. They have been trying to get Jack on the xeriscape
concept. I gave him a bunch of infOI-mation. I notice he didn't
show up tonight. Chairman Ver Way stated she didn't think he was
going to show up.
Mr. Roberts stated there is no such thing as xeriscaping. You
can get a native plant and it's going to take the weather and
the highs and lows but you are still going to have irrigation.
Mr. Roberts asked which engineer drew up the plans on the three
median strips. He asked who has the plans so he can see them.
Chairman Ver Way stated Jack does. Mr. Roberts stated he would
like to see them. He stated they could start on the median
strips by doing fifteen feet at either end and as money goes on
keep filling back in.
Mr. Roberts asked how quick will Chairman Ver Way know

Ms. Palermo asked why they can't put an ad in the newspaper
telling people to submit their home for a beautification award.
She stated she is finding it more difficult finding houses. She
stated she went crazy with the business award. She stated she
had trouble finding a business that hadn't already received an
award.
Ms. Palermo asked what is going on with the cemetery. Chairman
Ver Way stated she spoke to the man and they were Supposed to be
having a meeting tomorrow. She stated he was trying to put PVC
pipe instead of those fences then you wouldn't have that repair
all the time. The painting was SUpposed to start this week.
January Beautification Award Choice
The selections were tabulated for the January Beautification
Award and the winning business was Burger f(ing.
Tape provided by citizen on Florida Shores Shoppinq Center
The Committee reviewed the tape. Ms. Sullivan suggested
contacting the Code Enforcement Officer. Chairman Ver Way stated
the Mayor suggested contacting Mark Karet. Ms. Palermo stated
anyone that takes that much interest and goes through that much
expense deserves an answer.
Ms. Sullivan suggested writing a letter to the editor. Ms.
Rossman stated before they write something they should find out
the correct procedures. Chairman Ver Way stated she would
contact Mr. Karet again to find out what is going on. She stated
she would like the Council, City Manager, and COde Enforcement
Officer to reVlew this tape.
