CITY OF EDGEWATER
BEAUTIFICATION & TREE COMMITTEE
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 20, 1992
7:00 P.M.
CITY HALL CONFERENCE ROOM
ROLL CALL/CALL TO ORDER:
The Chairman, Felicia Ver Way, called the regular meeting of the
Beautification & Tree Committee to order at 7:02 p.m. in the City
Hall Conference Room.
Members present were: Felicia Ver Way, Doris stump, Linda
Sullivan, and Tanina Palermo. Betty Rossman was absent. Also
present was Lisa Kruckmeyer, Recording Secretary.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Ms. Sullivan made a motion to approve the minutes of the
September 8, 1992 and Ms. Palermo seconded the motion. Motion
CARRIED 4-0.
OLD BUSINESS
Beautifvinq Retention Ponds
Chairman Ver Way stated she spoke to Kyle Fegley and he is going
to inspect this situation if it has not been corrected the right
way.
Ms. Stump stated maybe we can get people to donate some bald
cypress. Ms. Palermo suggested some miniature palms.
Chairman Ver Way stated Councilperson Gillespie suggested
contacting Alice Murphy about different plants that can be used.
Ms. Sullivan made a motion to send a memo to Mark Karet inviting
him to the next meeting to answer questions regarding the
eyesores along u.S. #1, seconded by Ms. Palermo. Motion CARRIED
4-0.
Ms. Sullivan stated they can get a telephone campaign going with
the citizens and the City to get some action.
Ms. Sullivan stated you can't beautify unless you clean up. If
these are in City code then some codes need to be changed.
The Committee further discussed eyesores along u.S. #1.
The Committee then discussed the Florida Shores Shopping Center.
The Committee then discussed the difficulty of finding houses in
Edgewater to give the beautification award to.
The Committee then gave their picks for the December award.
Beautification Award Choice
Chairman Ver Way asked that criteria for the Beautification Award
be put on the next agenda.
The selections were tabulated for November and the winning
residence was 3216 Lime Tree Drive.
The Committee then discussed the college being annexed into
Edgewater.
The Committee further discussed problems with finding homes and
businesses in Edgewater to give the award to.

The Committee then discussed what a mess the roads in Florida
Shores are.
NEW BUSINESS
Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act
Chairman Ver Way stated Councilperson Gillespie stated funds will
not be released for three years. She stated there is no one in
Tallahassee to disperse the funds. Chairman Ver Way stated
Councilperson Gillespie is really working on trying to get these
funds for the City.
The Committee then discussed the one cent sales tax that did not
pass.
DISCUSSION ITEMS/CORRESPONDENCE:
Information on Urban and Community Forestry Seminar
Chairman Ver Way and Ms. Sullivan gave a summary of the seminar
they attended on Urban and Community Forestry.
Ms. Sullivan made a motion to send a memo to Jack Corder thanking
him for the tour and informing him the Committee has a better
understanding of what his department does, seconded by Ms. Stump.
Motion CARRIED 4-0.
The Committee then discussed the median projects.
Ms. Sullivan stated they got information from a nurseryman to
start a project on selling trees cheap. She stated this company
will send a minimum of 100 trees of each species.
Ms. Stump stated the Department of Agriculture on State Road 44
gives trees away. Chairman Ver Way stated she is already on the
list to receive trees from them.
The Committee continued discussing different trees they can get
cheap.
Ms. Sullivan stated they need to get more people from Jack's area
to go to seminars like they attended.
Ms. Stump stated she would not be at the next meeting.
Chairman Ver Way and Ms. Sullivan again talked about the seminar
they attended.
The Committee then discussed the meeting they attended with the
Land Development and Regulatory Agency.
Arbor Day
Ms. Sullivan made a motion to table Arbor Day until the next
meeting, seconded by Ms. Palermo. Motion CARRIED 4-0.
Chairman Ver Way suggested tabling designating a city flower for
a future meeting.
The Committee then discussed getting volunteers to help with
future projects.
Memos sent from last meetinq
Chairman Ver Way stated they still had not received any responses
to the memos that were sent out.

Chairman Ver Way stated the City Engineer and Mr. Corder
contacted her by phone.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to discuss, Ms. stump made a
motion to adjourn, seconded by Ms. Sullivan. The meeting
adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
