CITY OF EDGEWATER
BEAUTIFICATION & TREE COMMITTEE
TUESDAY, APRIL 13, 1993
7:00 P.M.
CITY HALL CONFERENCE ROOM
MINUTES
ROLL CALL/CALL TO ORDER:
The Chairman, Felicia Ver Way, called the regular meeting of the
Beautification & Tree Committee to order at 7:10 p.m. in the city
Hall Conference Room.
Members present were: Felicia Ver Way, Linda Sullivan, and Doris
Stump. Also present was Mary Cusano and Recording Secretary,
Lisa Kruckmeyer.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Ms. Stump made a motion to approve the minutes of the March
9,1993 meeting, seconded by Ms. Sullivan. The motion CARRIED 3-
o.
Chairman Ver Way stated the dinner was very nice and asked to
have a thank you memo sent to Council.
Chairman Ver Way read a resignation letter given to her by Ms.
Palermo and asked to have copies given to the City Manager to
pass on to Council.
OLD BUSINESS:
Arbor Day
Chairman Ver Way stated she spoke to Dan Lewis from Discovery
Days and he was thrilled they were asked to attend the Arbor Day
Celebration. He stated he would bring some children and they
would sing a few songs.
The Committee then discussed what to include on the agenda for
the celebration.
The agenda would be as follows: Color Guard, Welcome - Felicia
Ver Way, Mayor - read proclamation, City Manager - poem of
choice, Brad Johnson, Children - 1 song, Mayor - certificate
presentation, Beautification & Tree Committee - tree presentation
to children, if Mr. Corder doesn't want them for one of the
parks, Thank You, Children - singing.
Chairman Ver way asked a memo of invitation to the Arbor Day
Celebration be sent to the city Manager, City Council, and Mr.
Corder. She asked a letter be sent to Dan Lewis, Discovery Days
inviting him and the children.
There was some discussion on the tree the City is purchasing to
plant at Veterans Park.
Chairman Ver Way asked the Secretary to prepare a certificate of
appreciation for the children at Discovery Days who will be
singing at the celebration.
Chairman Ver Way asked the Secretary to bring the Flag to hang
during the celebration at Veterans Park.
The Committee decided if Mr. McMahon could not read the poem,
they would ask a councilperson to do it.
The Committee decided they were all pleased with the agenda.

NEW BUSINESS:
May Beautification Award Choice
The selections were tabulated and the winning residence is 2507
Glenwood Drive. The selections for Zone 5 are 3010 Kumquat
Drive, 3229 Queen Palm Drive, and 3032 Willow Oak Drive.
Goals for City Beautification
Ms. Sullivan made a motion to table this item, seconded by Ms.
Stump. The motion CARRIED 3-0.
DISCUSSION ITEMS/CORRESPONDENCE:
Chairman Ver Way explained her conversation with the owner of the
coin laundromat next to the Post Office.
Chairman Ver Way stated the appearance coming into the City is
bad and there has to be something that can be done.
Chairman Ver Way asked that a memo be sent to Council regarding
the status of approving code regulations. She stated it is
important to have regulations that cover the old and new
businesses in Edgewater.
The Committee decided they would also like a response to the
pictures that were presented to them on these eyesores along U.S.
#1.
The Committee agreed something needs to be done.
Ms. Sullivan stated until the citizens start seeing some of these
projects being done no one will listen or do anything.
Chairman Ver Way stated they did not get a chance to talk about
creating a new award for businesses that do extensive remodeling
and asked that it be put on the agenda for next time.
Chairman Ver Way also asked to put discussion on summer recess
for the Committee on the next agenda.
Ms. Sullivan stated her term expires in August and Chairman Ver
Way asked her to do another letter asking to remain on the
Co.mmittee.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to discuss, Ms. Sullivan made a
motion to adjourn, seconded by Ms. Stump. The meeting adjourned
at 8:12 p.m.
