BEAUTIFICATION , TREE COMMITTEE

MINUTES
ROLL CALL/CALL TO ORDER:
Chairman Felicia Ver Way called the regular meeting of the
Beautification & Tree Committee to order at 6:52 p.m. in the City
Hall Conference Room.
Members present were: Felicia Ver Way, Linda Sullivan, and Helen
Janda. Doris Stump was absent. Also present was Lisa
Kruckmeyer, Recording Secretary.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Ms. Sullivan made a motion to approve the minutes from the May
11, 1993 meeting, seconded by Ms. Janda. The motion CARRIED 3-0.
OLD BUSINESS:
There was no old business to be discussed.
NEW BUSINESS:
Welcome new member - Helen Janda
Chairman Ver Way welcomed Helen Janda to the Committee.
Chairman Ver Way informed Ms. Janda of the projects the Committee
is currently working on. She showed her pictures of the eyesores
along u.S. #1.
Chairman Ver Way asked a letter be sent to the owners of Pizza
Kabana thanking them for repainting their building and informing
them we appreciate their efforts in beautifying Edgewater.
Chairman Ver Way asked the secretary to find out who the owner is
of 1625 S. Ridgewood Ave. She stated the Committee would like to
get this building painted.
Chairman Ver Way stated maybe the Edgewater Area Council could
help get this building painted and cleaned up and get the sign
replaced at the Resort Motel. She asked the Secretary to find
out who the owner is of the Resort Motel also.
Chairman Ver Way showed Ms. Janda pictures of the medians in
Titusville and the retention ponds.
Chairman Ver Way read a section out of the Economic Development
Book given to her by Joe Martin of the Industrial Development
Board in reference to the Beautification and Tree Committee.
Ms. Sullivan made a motion to make a recommendation to Council to
have scenic route signs put along Riverside Drive, seconded by
Ms. Janda. The motion CARRIED 3-0.
Chairman Ver Way informed Ms. Janda the Committee would like to
have fountains put in some of the ponds in Edgewater.
Chairman Ver Way spoke about the median projects that will be
starting soon.
Chairman Ver Way passed out wildflower seed books she bought for
the Committee. She asked one be given to Jack Corder.

Chairman Ver Way asked a memo be sent to Mr. Corder asking for an
update on the plans for purchasing seeds and when the medians
will be started. The Committee would like to be informed before
the next meeting.
Chairman Ver Way asked that board member discussion be placed on
the agenda permanently.
Chairman Ver Way stated the by-laws, tree ordinance and sign
ordinance would be discussed at the next meeting.
Ms. Sullivan spoke about the workshop they attended.
The Committee decided they would do the board member discussion
under miscellaneous on the agenda.
There was discussion about possible changes to the by-laws.
Chairman Ver Way informed Ms. Janda they would possibly be
working on an Adopt-A-Tree program this fall.
Ms. Sullivan asked if there was a list of the goals of the
Beautification Committee that were discussed with Mr. Corder.
Chairman Ver Way informed her she would get copies for the
Committee. She informed the Committee these items were supposed
to be included with Mr. Corder's budget.
Chairman Ver Way asked to have included in Mr. Corder's memo what
the results were with the budget of the goals submitted to him.
There was discussion on when the Committee would be getting a new
member.
The Committee gave each other their phone numbers.
Ms. Sullivan informed Ms. Janda she would be able to give her a
ride if she needed one.
There was discussion about presenting the Beautification Award to
100 N. Ridgewood Avenue for the month of October.
Ms. Janda informed the Committee she was pleased with what the
Beautification & Tree Committee is doing.
Chairman Ver Way spoke about some places they would like to
beautify when they get involved with the Adopt-A-Tree Program.
Chairman Ver Way asked how the trees were allowed to be put in
the front of City Hall because when the Beautification & Tree
Committee wanted to plant a tree there for Arbor Day they weren't
allowed. She stated they could have gotten the trees donated.
Ms. Sullivan explained some of the items they are working on are
very repetitious.
Chairman Ver Way and Ms. Sullivan explained the median blueprints
to Ms. Janda.
Chairman Ver Way asked the Secretary to let her know the name of
the owner of 100 N. Ridgewood Avenue.
Chairman Ver Way informed the Committee First Union was supposed
to budget some money in October to help beautify the median from
U.S.#l to the river. She stated if they don't get that much,
they would ask other banks to help.

Chairman Ver Way spoke about the nice work Mr. Corder's
maintenance crew does taking care of the parks and the medians.
Chairman Ver Way stated they would like to get a Garden Club in
Edgewater. Ms. Janda informed the Committee she used to be on a
Garden Club in Edgewater.
The Committee decided they would get the goals together and then
present them to Council.
Chairman Ver Way explained the Beautification Award process to
Ms. Janda.
Chairman Ver Way informed the Committee the next award would come
from Zone 1.
Chairman Ver Way informed Ms. Janda about an award they are
interested in creating for people that do improvements to their
homes or buildings.
Chairman Ver Way stated they need to start picking older homes
for awards. The Committee decided they would chose a house in
the Wildwood Subdivision for the next award.
Chairman Ver Way stated for Zone 4 they would pick out of Meadow
Lake Subdivision.
There was more discussion on the new award they would like to
create.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to discuss, Ms. Sullivan made a
motion to adjourn, seconded by Ms. Janda. The meeting adjourned
at 7:37 p.m.
