12-14-1993 ~ ~ CITY OF EDGEWATER BEAUTIFICATION & TREE COMMITTEE TUESDAY, DECEMBER 14, 1993 7:00 P.M. CITY HALL CONFERENCE ROOM MINUTES ROLL CALL/CALL TO ORDER: Chairman Felicia Ver Way called the regular meeting of the Beautification & Tree Committee to order at 7:02 p.m. in the city Hall Conference Room. Members present were: Felicia Ver Way, Doris stump, and Kathleen Spellman. Helen Janda and Linda Sullivan arrived at 7:04 p.m. Also present was Lisa Kruckmeyer, Recording Secretary. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Ms. Stump made a motion to approve the November 9, 1993 minutes, seconded by Ms. Spellman. The motion CARRIED 3-0. OLD BUSINESS: Set UP meetinq with Parks and Recreation Board The Committee decided they would meet with the Parks and Recreation Board for their January meeting. They decided they would move their January meeting to the first Wednesday before the joint meeting with the Parks and Recreation Board. Chairman Ver Way asked the Committee to have some ideas ready to discuss with the Parks and Recreation Board. Ms. Sullivan made a motion to send a memo to the Parks and Recreation Board secretary asking to meet with the Board on January 5th, seconded by Ms. Janda. The motion CARRIED 5-0. Tree Ordinance Ms. Sullivan stated we aren't really doing what the tree ordinance says. She stated the ordinances states what should be done but nothing is being done. Chairman Ver Way asked to find out who is in charge of enforcing the tree ordinance. There was a discussion about a certain amount of trees having to be left on property when it is cleared for building. The Committee decided they would continue discussion on the tree ordinance at the January meeting. There was discussion about the Committee's interest in selling seedlings during Arbor Day or when people come to pay their water bills. There was discussion about the City building a City nursery. There was some discussion on planting trees in the medians. Chairman Ver Way informed the Committee she finished the Tree City U.S.A. recertification application but was waiting for Mr. Corder to finish the budget portion of the application. There was discussion about there being a new forester taking care of the Tree City U.S.A. status for the City. Chairman Ver Way asked the secretary to put a copy of the application in the packets for the next meeting. , "w' ""'" Chairman Ver Way informed the Committee of the problems she had with giving the November Beautification Award to the owners of 205 Lone Pine Drive. The Committee discussed the dead tree on S.R. 442. Ms. Sullivan made a motion to send a notice to the Code Enforcement Officer asking her to send a notice to the owner of the dead tree asking them to remove the tree because it is a hazard to people driving by and to please give a time limit for them to remove this tree, seconded by Ms. Janda. The motion CARRIED 5-0. Chairman Ver Way stated she spoke to Mr. Booker from John Mica's office and he informed her the City was not picked to receive any of the ISTEA funds. She informed the Committee Mark Karet knows all about the enhancement programs involved with the ISTEA funds. Chairman Ver Way asked a memo be sent to Mr. Karet asking him to explain the enhancement programs involved with the ISTEA funds. Ms. Sullivan spoke about a five year or ten year plan of how they would want to see the City in the future. Ms. Sullivan suggested bringing that up at the meeting with the Parks and Recreation Board. NEW BUSINESS December Beautification Award Choice Ms. Janda informed the Committee her pick was 411 W. Ocean Ave. Chairman Ver Way's pick was 1103 S. Riverside Drive and Ms. Spellman's pick was 1007 S. Ridgewood Ave. Ms. Stump's pick for Zone 3 is 1831 Sabal Palm Drive and Chairman Ver Way's pick is 1818 Evergreen Drive. Chairman Ver Way's business pick for January is the Florida Shores Shopping Center and Ms. Sullivan's pick is Coastal Tire. The secretary asked the rest of the Committee to call in their business picks for the January meeting by December 22nd. Chairman Ver Way informed the Committee Zone 4 would be picked out of Meadow Lake Subdivision. The selections were tabulated and the winner is 1103 S. Riverside Drive. Chairman Ver Way thanked Linda and Kathleen for helping plant the plants in the medians. MISCELLANEOUS Chairman Ver Way spoke about contacting certain organizations to help plant the medians and problems she had with the Edgewater Area Council. There was discussion about the medians that are being planted by the workers from Manpower. Chairman Ver Way informed the Committee, if they are interested in helping plant the medians again to please contact Mr. Corder. Chairman Ver Way asked to send a letter to Maid Rite wishing them success in their new business venture and we as the Beautification Committee are pleased to extend our well wishes because of helping beautify our City.
