BEAUTIFICATION & TREE COMMITTEE

MINUTES
CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL:
The Chairman, Felicia Ver Way, called the regular meeting of the
Beautification & Tree Committee to order at 7:05 p.m. in the City
Hall Conference Room.
Members present were: Felicia Ver Way, Kathleen Spellman, Doris
Stump, and Helen Janda. Linda Sullivan was absent. Also present
was Recording Secretary, Lisa Kruckmeyer.
The secretary informed the Committee she would put something in
the newsletter asking people to call in houses they would like to
see receive the Beautification Award.
The Committee discussed problems that could occur if this was
done.
Chairman Ver Way spoke about problems she has been having with
presenting the Beautification Award.
The secretary suggested breaking the awards down into
subdivisions or certain areas of the City instead of by zones.
The Committee decided they would leave the award process as it is
for now.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
There were no minutes to be approved.
OLD BUSINESS:
Tree Ordinance
There was a discussion on planting trees on public land. The
Committee discussed some areas where trees could be used.
Chairman Ver Way feels the Library and Fire Department on U.S. #1
could use new trees.
Chairman Ver Way stated she would bring the tapes from the last
two Arbor Day Celebrations to the next meeting and asked this be
put on the agenda.
There was a discussion about the banks helping beautify the
median from U.S. #1 to Riverside Drive at Indian River Blvd.
Ms. Spellman asked about a City nursery that is mentioned in the
tree ordinance. Chairman Ver Way informed her of the status of
the nursery.
Chairman Ver Way informed the Committee the City had been
reapproved for the recertification of Tree City U.S.A.
There was a discussion about the items included in the
application for the recertification of the Tree City U.S.A.
NEW BUSINESS
January Beautification Award Choice
The Committee asked the secretary to continue putting a list of
the picks with their agenda packets.

There was a discussion about the Ormond Beach beautification
project.
There was a discussion about the importance of putting a bike
path along Indian River Blvd.
The selections were tabulated and the winner is Discovery Days.
The picks for Zone 3 are 1903 Mango Tree Drive, 1818 Evergreen
Drive, and 1831 Sabal Palm Drive. Ms. Janda stated she would
call in her pick.
Chairman Ver Way asked if there was a Baskin Robbins coming to
Edgewater. The secretary informed her we were getting a Dunkin
Donuts but nothing came through for a Baskin Robbins. She then
asked the status of Burger King. The secretary informed her an
American Cafe was supposed to go in there.
The Committee discussed Neptune Lounge being closed.
The Committee discussed some of the businesses in Edgewater that
have been painted.
The Committee discussed whether or not a new park that is being
put between Edgewater and Oak Hill is actually in Edgewater.
Ideas to Discuss with Parks and Recreation Board
Chairman Ver Way stated she would like the Committee to be
prepared before they go into the meeting with the Parks and
Recreation Board.
The Committee decided they would like this put on the agenda to
discuss before the meeting with the Parks and Recreation Board.
Chairman Ver Way spoke about the purpose of the joint meeting
being whether or not their by-laws overlap with the Parks and
Recreation Board's by-laws.
Chairman Ver Way asked the secretary to put a copy of the Parks
and Recreation Board by-laws in their packet and to also include
this item on the agenda.
There was a discussion about the tree donated last year by
Discovery Days and their participation in the Arbor Day
Celebration last year.
Chairman Ver Way explained to the Committee what is involved with
preparing for the Arbor Day Celebration.
Chairman Ver Way spoke about some problems she had with the first
Arbor Day Celebration being held at Indian River Elementary.
The Committee discussed having the Arbor Day Celebration at the
gazebo along Riverwalk but there not being enough parking.
Chairman Ver Way asked what the status was on the scenic route
signs being placed along Riverside Drive. The secretary informed
the Committee she would contact Public Works and find out.
The Committee further discussed some ideas for the Arbor Day
Celebration for this year.
Chairman Ver Way suggested possibly having the Country Cloggers
at the next celebration and asked the secretary to try and find
out who is in charge.
Chairman Ver Way then spoke more about previous Arbor Day
Celebrations.

There were no items to be discussed.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to discuss, Ms. Janda made a
motion to adjourn, seconded by Ms. stump. The meeting adjourned
at 7:47 p.m.
