BEAUTIFICATION , TREE COMMITTEE
FEBRUARY 8, 1994

MINUTES
CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL:
The Chairman, Felicia Ver Way, called the regular meeting of the
Beautification & Tree Committee to order at 7:10 p.m. in the city
Hall Conference Room.
Members present were: Felicia Ver Way, Kathleen spellman, Doris
stump, Helen Janda, and Linda Sullivan. Also present was Lisa
Kruckmeyer, Recording Secretary.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Ms. Janda made a motion to approve the minutes of the December
14, 1993 meeting, seconded by Ms. Sullivan. The motion CARRIED
5-0.
Ms. sullivan made a motion to approve the minutes of the January
11, 1994 meeting, seconded by Ms. Janda. The motion CARRIED 5-0.
OLD BUSINESS:
There was some discussion about people not wanting to accept the
Beautification Award.
Chairman Ver Way asked the secretary to find out if someone wants
to donate $400 - $800 worth of trees for our Arbor Day
Celebration as a yearly thing, can they be given a receipt so it
can be claimed on their income tax.
There was further discussion on this matter.
The Committee discussed trees being planted in the medians.
There was a discussion about area cities putting trees in the
medians and the city of Edgewater not being able to.
Ms. Sullivan spoke about discrepancies in the detailed budget
list submitted to the National Arbor Day Foundation for the
renewal of our Tree city U.S.A. statuS.
Chairman Ver Way feels we should invite the Parks and Recreation
Board to our meeting since the scheduled meeting was cancelled
due to the lack of a quorum of the Parks and Recreation Board.
There was discussion about too many plants being planted in the
medians. Chairman Ver Way stated an application was submitted
for another grant for more medians but they won't know anything
until July.
Ms. Sullivan asked if plans were drawn up for the next set of
medians and sent with the application without being reviewed by
the committee. Chairman Ver way didn't know.
There was more discussion about too many plants being planted n
the medians and the small turnout of people to help plant the
medians.
Ms. Sullivan spoke about garbage in the medians not being picked
up by city employees driving by.
Ms. Sullivan made a motion to send a memo to Jack asking him to
the next meeting and ask him to bring whatever was submitted with
the application and plans for another grant, seconded by Ms.
Janda. The motion CARRIED 5-0.

There was discussion on the status of the scenic route signs.
Chairman Ver Way asked to incorporate this into the memo to Jack.
Chairman Ver Way spoke about a conversation with a concerned
citizen regarding getting the paved road going into the Wildwood
Subdivision repaved because of its condition. This lady was
informed by the city Manager and public Works Director they would
try to get this taken care of.
Chairman Ver Way also stated the lady also mentioned the sign
being in bad shape and her interest in collecting money from the
residents in Wildwood to purchase a new sign. The secretary
stated the lady would need to get a solicitors permit in order to
go door to door.
Chairman Ver Way asked the secretary to find out who is in charge
of the Rotary Club.
There was discussion regarding the Florida Shores Homeowners
Association and the Arbor Day celebration last year.
Chairman Ver Way explained what happened regarding the trees that
were planted at the Fire Department. She is embarrassed these
trees have not been replaced.
The committee discussed a date for the Arbor Day Celebration.
The committee decided on April 22nd with April 29th being a rain
date.
The committee discussed some of the groupS they would like to see
participate in the Arbor Day Celebration this year.
NEW BUSINESS:
Arbor DaY Celebration videos - 1992 & 1993
The committee reviewed and discussed the videos from past Arbor
Day Celebrations.
Review Parks & Recreation By-laws
This matter was not discussed.
February Beautification Award Choice
The selections were tabulated and the winner was 1903 Mango Tree
Drive.
MISCELLANEOUS
There was discussion on who is responsible for cutting down dead
trees.
Chairman Ver Way asked what is going on with the new general
store on Indian River Blvd.
Chairman Ver Way asked a memo be sent to Code Enforcement to find
out the status of the gasoline tanks sitting in front of this
business.
There was discussion on the removal of the dead tree on Indian
River Blvd.
The committee decided they would hold the Arbor Day Celebration
at Whistle stop Park on April 22nd at 3:00 p.m. tentatively.
The secretary stated she would contact Barb at Parks and
Recreation to let her know.

The Committee again discussed people they would like to see
participate in the Arbor Day Celebration. The committee decided
they would put this on the agenda for the next meeting.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to discuss, Ms. sullivan made a
motion to adjourn, seconded by Ms. stump. The meeting adjourned
at 8:15 p.m.
