BEAUTIFICATION & TREE COMMITTEE
MARCH 8, 1994

MINUTES
CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL:
The Chairman, Felicia Ver Way, called the regular meeting of the
Beautification & Tree Committee to order at 7:06 p.m. in the city
Hall Conference Room.
Members present were: Felicia Ver Way, Doris stump, and Helen
Janda. Kathleen Spellman and Linda Sullivan were absent. Also
present was Lisa Kruckmeyer, Recording Secretary.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Ms. Janda made a motion to approve the minutes of the February 8,
1994 meeting, seconded by Ms. Stump. The motion CARRIED 3-0.
The Committee gave their picks for the April Beautification
Award. The businesses chosen were Felicia & Doris - the Florida
Shores Shopping Center, Linda - Coastal Tire, and Helen - Ed's
Auto Repair located at 2016 Guava Drive.
The Committee discussed businesses that have improved their
appearance in Edgewater.
The Committee then discussed the medians that have been planted.
OLD BUSINESS:
Arbor Dav
Chairman Ver Way informed the Committee an application for
another grant was submitted in the amount of $23,345 for two
medians at the north end of the City. She stated they will know
something by the end of July.
Chairman Ver Way stated the application was submitted with the
same flowers as last time including sun beach flowers because the
grants are approved by the plants that are chosen.
Chairman Ver Way asked each member to get two tree donations.
She explained to the Committee how they should go about doing
this. She informed them she is looking for Golden Rain Trees,
East Palatka Hollies and Drake Elms.
The Committee discussed changing the location of the Arbor Day
Celebration to the Fire station instead of Whistle stop Park so
the trees that were planted previously by the Beautification
Committee could be replaced.
Chairman Ver Way informed the Committee she was going to put a
press release in the newspaper. She stated if they get a bunch
of trees they can put them throughout the city. Ms. Stump was
concerned with the Committee going to the same places for
donations. Chairman Ver Way agreed to inform the members who to
go to.
Ms. Stump made a motion to change the location of the Arbor Day
Celebration to the Fire station on April 22nd at 3:00 p.m.,
seconded by Ms. Janda. The motion CARRIED 3-0.
Chairman Ver Way asked a memo be sent to Jack informing him they
would like to have the Arbor Day Celebration at the Fire
Department.

The Committee discussed whether they should get a cash donation
or a tree donation. They decided they would get a cash donation.
Chairman Ver Way informed the Committee she would call them and
let them know who to contact to get donations.
The Committee discussed where trees are needed around the city.
The Committee decided the Library and the Fire station need
trees.
Chairman Ver Way stated she spoke to Jack about planting wild
flowers around the trees on Indian River Blvd and he informed her
he is trying to get water to the medians first, then they could
look at this idea.
The Committee discussed beautifying the fences around the
retention areas in Florida Shores.
Chairman Ver Way asked if they needed identification to get
donations. The secretary stated she would find out.
The Committee discussed getting refreshments for the Arbor Day
Celebration this year.
The Committee discussed who they would like for entertainment at
the celebration. They decided on the Country Cloggers and the
Showdolls. The Committee decided the band would be too much.
Chairman Ver Way informed the Committee they would have programs
on green paper this year. She stated she would like to have the
women post the colors this year and she would like to ask Linda
to read a poem.
The Committee decided Ms. Janda would pass out the flyers and Ms.
Stump would take care of refreshments.
The Committee decided they would ask Winn Dixie and publix to
donate cookies.
Chairman Ver Way stated she was going to mention in the press
release to bring lawn chairs this year.
Chairman Ver Way informed the Committee the trees would be
planted ahead of time and an announcement will be made of the
people who donated money for trees.
Chairman Ver Way asked the secretary who to talk to about a tree
donation from the city. She informed her to contact Jack Corder.
Chairman Ver Way asked the secretary to have the proclamation
ready for the next meeting.
Chairman Ver Way asked the secretary to send a letter to Kathy
Lowenstein inviting her to come and speak at the Arbor Day
Celebration.
Chairman Ver Way asked the secretary to find out who the owner is
of the property on Indian River Blvd. where the gasoline tanks
are.
NEW BUSINESS
March Beautification Award Choice
The selections were tabulated and the winner of the March
Beautification Award is 211 Meadow Lake Drive.
The Committee decided they would pick a house from Pelican Cove
West for Zone 5.

MISCELLANEOUS
Chairman Ver Way informed the Committee she would contact the
Committee Monday morning with who they should speak to about a
tree donation.
Chairman Ver Way asked the secretary to make her a copy of the
proclamation and put it in her packet.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to discuss, Ms. Janda made a
motion to adjourn, seconded by Ms. stump. The meeting adjourned
at 7:49 p.m.
