BEAUTIFICATION & TREE COMMITTEE
APRIL 12, 1994

MINUTES
ROLL CALL/CALL TO ORDER:
The Chairman, Felicia Ver Way, called the regular meeting of the
Beautification & Tree Committee to order at 7:02 p.m. in the City
Hall Conference Room.
Members present were: Felicia Ver Way, Linda Sullivan, Helen
Janda, and Kathleen Spellman. Doris Stump arrived at 7:09 p.m.
Also present was Lisa Kruckmeyer, Recording Secretary.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Regular Meetinq of March 8, 1994
Ms. Janda made a motion to approve the minutes of March 8, 1994,
second by Ms. Sullivan. The motion CARRIED 4-0.
OLD BUSINESS:
Arbor Dav
Chairman Ver Way informed the Committee the following people
would be donating trees: Animal Clinic of Edgewater - Dr. Neves,
Subway, First Union, the City of Edgewater, AAA Atlantic Coast
Chern Dry Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning, B & L Plumbing, and Mrs.
Clark.
Chairman Ver Way stated she is waiting to hear back from the
following: G. D. McGuinn's, Nancy Swiney of State Farm
Insurance, Dustin's, and the Florida Shores Property Owner's
Association.
There was a discussion regarding whether the Edgewater Library
will close if the Regional Library is built. Ms. Stump informed
the Committee so far, a decision has not been made. She stated a
lot of people have signed a petition to keep the Edgewater
Library.
Chairman Ver Way stated she still has not heard from the Country
Cloggers or the women to post the colors.
There was a discussion about the trees the Committee is looking
for to plant at the Fire station and possibly the Library.
The Committee discussed the trees that were planted at Veterans
Park. Chairman Ver Way doesn't feel they look that great. She
stated she was going to talk to Mr. Corder.
Chairman Ver Way asked Ms. Sullivan if she would like to read a
poem for the Arbor Day Celebration. Ms. Sullivan agreed to do it
as long as she could pick the poem.
Chairman Ver Way asked the secretary if she had heard from Kathy
Lowenstein. The secretary informed her she had not.
The Committee discussed whether to have a special meeting to
finalize the agenda for the celebration. Ms. Sullivan agreed to
get together with Chairman Ver Way and she would put the program
on her computer.
There was a discussion regarding refreshments for the
celebration.

Chairman Ver Way asked the secretary to send invitations to the
Mayor and Council.
There was a brief discussion regarding New Smyrna Beach putting
trees in their medians for their beautification project.
NEW BUSINESS:
April Beautification Award Choice
The selections were tabulated and the winning business was the
Florida Shores Shopping Center. Coastal Tire came in second and
Ed's Auto Repair came in third.
The award for May would be chosen from Pelican Cove West. The
houses picked were: Felicia - 410 Falcon Ave., Linda - 600 Sea
Gull Court, Doris - 421 Falcon Ave., Helen - 412 Falcon Ave, and
Kathleen - SW corner of Falcon Ave. and Sandpiper.
MISCELLANEOUS:
Chairman Ver Way asked the Committee to be at the Fire Station
around 2:30 p.m. to help get things ready for the celebration.
Chairman Ver Way stated she would use the invitation for the
newspapers and would add on the bottom for people to bring lawn
chairs.
The Committee discovered Earth Day was also on April 22nd, the
same as our Arbor Day Celebration.
Chairman Ver Way stated May would be the last meeting and the
Committee would reconvene in September.
ADJOURNMENT:
There being no further business to discuss, Ms. Sullivan made a
motion to adjourn, seconded by Ms. Janda. The meeting adjourned
at 7:42 p.m.
