OLD BUSINESS
Fountain Discussion
Chairman Ver Way presented the status of obtaining funds from the
Edgewater banks for the fountain.
There was a discussion regarding going to local businesses in the
area such as Boston Whaler and Coronado Paint to obtain funds.
The Committee discussed putting something in the paper asking for
donations.
Mr. Visconti suggested purchasing a TV and raffling it off. Mr.
Visconti agreed to go to Boston Whaler and Coronado Paint to
speak to them about participating in the fountain project.
Chairman Ver Way commented on a conversation she had with Karen
Heaton who informed her there would be no way they could get any
money from the Chamber. She was asked by the Chamber to make a
presentation of the fountain but she didn't feel she should
present it to them if they aren't going to do anything for the
Committee.
There was further discussion regarding the Chamber not being
willing to donate towards the fountain.
Chairman Ver Way suggested going to the residents and asking for
gold, silver and bronze donations and having the names in print.
She also suggested leaving canisters around the City.
Mulch - Bike Path - Indian River Blvd.
Chairman Ver Way commented on having a frame placed on Indian
River Blvd. with mulch inside as a bike path. She stated she
spoke with Mr. Williams and he didn't see them getting mulch as
....,
....,
being a problem but to give him enough advanced notice. He
suggested the Committee look at the mulch because some of it is
in big chunks and it may ruin the bikes. Ms. Sullivan stated
most of the pedestrians are walking.
Chairman Ver Way agreed to get in touch with DOT since Indian
River Blvd. is a state road. There was a discussion regarding
the widening of Indian River Blvd. Chairman Ver Way agreed to
speak to DOT about the building that was built out by 1-95.
Chairman Ver Way informed the Committee of new eyesores being at
Papp's, the building located at 1092 S. Ridgewood Ave, Maynard's,
and the building at 1707 S. Ridgewood Ave and asked that a memo
be sent to Code Enforcement.
Chairman Ver Way spoke about a lady who would like to donate
monkey grass to the city. She suggested using it for edging in
the medians.
Chairman Ver Way commented on a conversation she had with Brenda
Johnson, Asst. Director of utilities, who informed her permits
were put in for the extensions for the reclaimed water to the
rest of the City and they should know in about three or four
weeks. Chairman Ver Way asked her to please get back in touch
with the Committee when she has some information.
Ms. Sullivan questioned if Mr. Corder had responded back to the
Committee regarding the 42 trees that were planted. She asked to
resend the memo to Mr. Corder with a copy to go to the Mayor.
She asked to include trimming the palm tree on u.S. #1. She
suggested Trim A Limb be contacted to trim the tree.
Chairman Ver Way asked that a letter of recognition be sent to
the owner of Pappa's Plaza next to Praise Tabernacle and the
Dollar General Store, All suite Motel, All Florida Plumbing &
Mechanical. Mr. visconti suggested having the whole Committee
sign the letter and framing the letters. Ms. Sullivan suggested
sending a letter to Restorations by Helton.
The Committee further discussed everyone signing the letter and
decided the letter should be signed by the Chairman only.
Ms. Sullivan asked the secretary to keep a running list of the
letters presented.
Chairman Ver Way feels they need to put a master plan together of
how the Committee wants the City to be beautified in so many
years.
Chairman Ver Way asked the Committee to have sketches of their
ideas at the next meeting so they can get their master plan
together to present to Council so money can be placed in the
budget for beautification.
Ms. Sullivan feels the Council needs to be told about the hard
time they are having obtaining funding for the fountain project.
Chairman Ver Way asked that a memo be sent to Chief Vola in
response to his letter dated January 17th. She asked that the
memo include as an enclosure a newspaper article from a
Tallahassee newspaper dated 2/19/96. The Committee apologizes if
he was offended with their suggestions for the firemen to help
out with beautification projects. Due to the fact we are all
from different cities, we give suggestions of beautification
projects from cities were we lived. As he will see from the
newspaper article, even Tallahassee does help out with watering
trees. This is where we pull our ideas from. It gets
frustrating for the Committee when they don't receive support
from other departments within the City.
