01-27-1998 Special ~ ~ CITY OF EDGEWATER BEAUTIFICATION & TREE COMMITTEE SPECIAL MEETING JANUARY 27, 1998 10:00 A.M. CITY TOUR MINUTES CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL Secretary Lisa Kruckmeyer called the Special Meeting to order at 10:20 a.m. at Veterans Park. Members present were: Mike Visconti, Mike Tanksley, Eleanor German, and Patrick Conway. Also present was Recording Secretary Lisa Kruckmeyer, Assistant Parks & Recreation Director Chuck Morgan, and City Historian JoAnne Sikes. MEETING PURPOSE The purpose of the meeting was to tour the city for eyesores and homes or businesses that should receive the Beautification Award. The Committee met at Veterans Park with the first part of the tour being a historical tour of Riverside Drive presented by City Historian JoAnne Sikes. city Historian JoAnne Sikes was dropped off at 11:15 a.m. at Veterans Park. The Committee recessed for five minutes. The tour continued at 11:20 a.m. starting at the north end of the City proceeding south on u.S. #1. Mr. Visconti feels trees and shrubs should be placed in the medians. He spoke about the medians being adopted by businesses with the first median at the north end of the City to be adopted by the city. There was a brief discussion regarding purchasing a water truck and using the water in the retention ponds to water plants in the medians. There was a brief discussion regarding replacing the Welcome to Edgewater sign. Mr. Tanksley feels Blue Gables Mobile Horne Park should have a fence around it with climbing flowering vines to screen the trailer park. The Committee discussed either sending a letter or contacting the owner. The Committee briefly mentioned all of the mobile home parks in Edgewater. Due to missing Maynards at 346 N. Ridgewood Ave, the Committee went back. Mr. Visconti got out and took pictures. The Committee agreed this property is an eyesore. Mr. Visconti feels All suite Motel should receive the Beautification Award. Chuck Morgan informed the Committee it is not feasible to have a water truck to water the medians. He suggested planting plants that do not require a lot of water that are native to Florida. There was a brief discussion regarding there being sprinkler systems in the medians in New Smyrna Beach. The Committee continued the tour out towards 1-95. .... ..." There was discussion regarding the beautification awards. Recording Secretary Lisa Kruckmeyer explained the process to choose businesses and homes for the beautification award. The Committee went on to discuss the medians on SR 442 and wanting to keep these medians when SR 442 is widened. There was a brief discussion regarding the large poles placed on SR 442 by Florida Power & Light. Ms. German spoke about the utilities being placed under ground in France. There was some discussion regarding the expensive cost to do this. The Committee would like to see these poles camouflaged. The Committee discussed the exit for Port Orange and how nice it looks. The Committee got out to look at the median by 1-95. Mr. visconti took pictures. Ms. German and Mr. Morgan spoke about what the Parks & Recreation Department does. Ms. German then asked about getting water to the medians. Mr. Morgan spoke about the cost to get water to the medians. Mr. Morgan spoke about vandalism that occurred in one of the City parks over the weekend. There was a brief discussion regarding vandalism. There was a brief discussion regarding the population in Edgewater and how many people are full-time residents. The Committee then discussed the property where trucks park out by 1-95. They asked the secretary to find out who owns this property. There was a brief discussion regarding R & R Grove and whether it is located in the City limits. The secretary agreed to find out. There was further discussion regarding the process for issuing Beautification Awards and the Committee needing to establish districts. The Committee discussed instead of having their picnic lunch behind the fountain, they would have it at Veterans Park due to it being more convenient. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to discuss, Mr. Tanksley made a motion to adjourn, second by Mr. Visconti. The meeting adjourned at 12:07 p.m. After the meeting, the Committee met at Veterans Park for a picnic lunch.
