SENIOR CITIZEN AD HOC COMMITTEE/OLD AND NEW BUSINESS Mr. Lanchoney asked for any Old Business items and Mr. Berman asked what had been done about the platform for the boccie ball shed. Mr. Corder stated he had done a work order for it to be done a little differently than planned but felt it will work out better this new way. Mr. Berman agreed. There were no New Business items for discussion. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Mr. Hatfield moved to approve the minutes of the February 5, 1992 meeting and Mr. Cory seconded the motion. Motion CARRIED 5-0. OLD BUSINESS Update on Riverwalk Mr. Corder stated he had just spent the whole day with the City Attorney and City Engineer on the legal aspects of any future problems. He said in the next week, he would be visiting the property owners who may have problem areas concerning the Riverwalk to eliminate these problem areas before the final design is completed and later the City will have public meetings on the project. Mr. Ray Anderson, a Riverside Drive resident, asked Mr. Corder to go over the state of development thus far and give a quick run down on the proj ect. Mr. Corder stated the preliminary plans are completed and the walk will run from Sanchez to the end of Riverside Drive. He said the walk will be made of pervious concrete, which allows water to soak through it and this will save on retention areas and the walk will vary in width between 6 - 8 feet. He stated there are some areas where they will have problems and the path will need to be moved and that is why they want to eliminate all these areas now before the final design is planned. He said people have been concerned about their plants, shrubs, sprinkler systems, etc., and he wants to assure these people that the City will make every effort to work with them, and move these things if necessary, or remove them altogether if that is what the home owner would prefer. He noted the City is still expecting to begin construction in July and a completion date of around October. llw' .."" NEW BUSINESS Update on Baseball Season Mr. Corder stated baseball season is in full swing and we improved 8 teams over last year, from 26 teams to 34 this year. He said all of the teams are full to capacity and they are playing Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday each week at both ballfields. Mr. Lanchoney asked how the umpire situation was this year and Mr. Corder said there were some problems, but everything is worked out now. Mr. Lanchoney asked how the tennis program was going and Mr. Corder said Steve Hardock was running a monthly program and had about 40 people overall. Mr. Cory asked how the Spring Training Baseball bus trips went and Mr. Corder replied it was very successful for a first endeavor and he hoped to do it again next year, maybe going to Vero Beach instead of Haines City. Easter Eoo Hunt Mr. Corder said the Easter Egg Hunt would be on Saturday, April 11th, at 10 AM at the Whistle Stop Park Ballfields. There will be 5 age divisions and a grand prize winner in each age division. Four of the groups will have a 50.00 savings bond, which were donated by local banks, as a grand prize and the youngest age division will win a big, stuffed bunny rabbit. He said last year was real successful for a first year and this time there will be 5,000 plastic eggs with a small surprise in each egg for the children to find. The Easter Bunny will also make an appearance to visit with the kids. Parks & Recreation Monthlv Report Mr. Corder stated the month of February was spent working on the Beautification grant, the Riverwalk plans and the Summer Recreation Program for the kids in the summertime. He said all the ballfields at both locations have to be worked every day for the baseball games and a lot of work has been done to get the baseball season underway. Mr. Tipton asked to bring up an item that had been discussed a few months back and that was the possibility of getting a sign like the one at Edgewater Rent All to use for publicity for City events. It could advertise for baseball sign ups, Easter Egg Hunt, Christmas events, City meetings, etc. It could be put in a very visible location and everyone driving through town would be up on what's going on in the City because a lot of people don' t get the newspapers and it's often a problem to get any publicity for Edgewater events. The Board agreed that the Fire Station on U.S. 1 or maybe the Library might be a good visible location for such a sign. Mr. Corder said he would find out if this could be possible. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, Mr. Tipton moved to adjourn, seconded by Mr. Hatfield. The meeting ended at 7:55 PM.
