MINUTES
ROLL CALL/CALL TO ORDER
Vice Chairman, Sharon Mooney, called the meeting to order at 7:02
P.M. in the Edgewater City Hall Conference Room.
Members present were: Danny Hatfield, Sharon Mooney and Torn
Tipton. Board members John Cory and Larry Lanchoney were absent.
Also present was Jack Corder, Director of Parks and Recreation and
Mark Miller from the press.
SENIOR CITIZEN AD HOC COMMITTEE/OLD AND NEW BUSINESS
Mr. Berman was not present, due to a recent surgery and it was
agreed to put the Senior Citizen Advisory Committee on hold until
further notice.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES/PARK BOARD
Mr. Hatfield moved to approve the minutes of the February 3, 1993
minutes and Mr. Tipton seconded the motion. Motion CARRIED 3-0.
OLD BUSINESS
NEW SMYRNA RESPONSE TO EXTENSION OF RIVERWALK
Mr. Tipton stated the Mayor of Edgewater had sent a letter to the
Mayor of New Smyrna about them considering extending the Riverwalk
in the future. A reply was received from George Musson which said
he has given a copy of the letter to the City Manager of New
Smyrna. He said it would be discussed with their Parks and
Recreation and Public Works and after his staff's evaluation there
would be a recommendation from the City Commission on their
decision. Mr. Tipton said for now it is a matter of wait and see.
Mr. Corder noted there will be a ground breaking ceremony for
Riverwalk on May 3, 1993 at 6:00 or 6:15 PM at Sanchez Avenue. He
said he had hoped it would be sooner, but the contractors had been
slowed down by projects they had down south, due to bad weather.
NEW BUSINESS
REPLACEMENT FENCE FOR TENNIS COURTS AT KENNEDY PARK
Mr. Corder said we would be going out for bids in the next week for
a fence for the courts. He noted the storm had really taken its
toll on the fence and it was hoped the wind screens would help to
save the fence for a few more years, but it was no match for the
incredible winds.
PARKS AND RECREATION MONTHLY REPORT
Mr. Corder stated that much of the work during March revolved
around the opening of baseball season, with fields to be prepared
daily, uniforms to be ordered, schedules to be made, etc. Mrs.
Mooney stated that New Smyrna had 26 baseball teams this year and
Mr. Corder said Edgewater had 35 teams, all with full rosters.

He noted the first year of the basketball program had gone
extremely well. He said the co-ed volleyball that had been planned
was put on hold for this year, due to small interest and conflicts
in scheduling with the teams who had signed up. Mrs. Mooney also
added that there may have been some competition from Pub 44, who
was sponsoring a volleyball league this year.
MISCELLAlfEOUS
Mr. Corder added his crew had a lot of extra work cleaning up after
the huge storm. He said there was not a lot of damage per say, but
mostly limbs and the such.
Mr. Tipton asked about the City's disaster plan in the event we
should get another bad hurricane. Mr. Corder said the City is
working on a Disaster Plan right now and it is in the final draft
stages right now.
Mr. Hatfield asked about the Easter Egg Hunt and Mr. Corder said it
was Saturday, the 10th at 10:00 AM at Whistle Stop Park. He said
there would be 4 age groups with a savings bond for the winner of
each group and also the Easter Bunny would be there.
The Board members discussed vandalism in the parks at some length
and Mr. Corder explained the Police are working on this at this
time.
ADJOURHMENT
There being no further business, Mr. Hatfield moved to adjourn,
seconded by Mr. Tipton. Motion CARRIED 3-0.
