08-31-1995 "-' .."", CITY OF EDGEWA TER PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD SPECIAL MEETING AUGUST 31, 1995, 6:30 PM AT 1844 ROYAL PALM (CHRISTMAS HOUSE) MINUTES ROLL CALUCALL TO ORDER This special meeting was called to order by the Vice-Chairman, Larry Ruggles. Members present were: Larry Ruggles, Shirley Pittman, Erwin Brown and Tom Tipton. Member Hal Jones was absent, due to surgery. Also present was Jack Corder, Director of Parks and Recreation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Mr. Tipton moved to approve the minutes of the April 26th minutes and Mrs. Pittman seconded. Motion CARRIED 3-0. OLD BUSINESS Progress Tour of Christmas House The purpose of this meeting was for Board members to tour the progress of the Christmas House. Minutes following are from notes, as no recorder was there. Mr. Ruggles asked Mr. Corder if the house would be completed by September 11 th, the date the tours begin, and Mr. Corder replied it would be very close. He said it may not be completely finished, but enough so to go ahead and start touring. He said right now they were close to finishing the AC and electric work and now that the tile was in they could proceed with the last plumbing and carpet. He noted that a 6 ft. privacy fence would be placed on the west and south sides of the house and as soon as the rain held up a little, they would be proceeding with the sod. Mrs. Pittman asked who would be doing the decorating and furnishings and Mr. Corder stated that Jodi Graham, from Jodi's Interior Treasures, was donating her time to do the design and she would be negotiating with the local furniture stores for the best prices. The Board discussed the progress thus far, and the only drawback they commented on was the plan not to enclose the big, outside patio. They all felt it would add a lot, at such a small cost, and screening should be reconsidered. The Board also discussed times and days they may be available to stay at the house and help conduct tours. Mr. Corder noted that the VFW Women's Auxiliary had already volunteered to help and he hoped also that the volunteers at City Hall who help with the City Newsletters might also volunteer some time. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, Mrs. Pittman moved to adjourn, seconded by Mr. Tipton. The next meeting for the Board will be the regularly scheduled October 12th meeting at City Hall.
