14F�a :7 ORDINANCE 110. /'/ AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE MANNER OF CALLING GENERAL AND SPECIAL ELECTIONS IN THE TOWN OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, AND PUBLISHING NOTICE THEREOF; PRO- VIDING FOR REGISTRATION OF QUALIFIED ELECTORS; PRO- VIDING FOR THE OPENING AND CLOSING OF REGISTRATION BOOKS; PROVIDING THE METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE TIP!`.E AND PURPOSE OF SUCH ELECTIONS; PRESCRIBINTG THE PLACE FOR SUCH ELECTIONS; PROVIDING FOR THE APPOINT- MENT CF ELECTION INSPECTORS AND CLERK AND DEFINING THEIR DUTIES; PROVIDING FOR A BOARD OF CANVASSLBS; PRESCRIBING THE FORM OF BALLOTS, AND PROVIDING THE Pe FNER OF NOMINATING THE CANDIDATES FOR IMICIPAL OFFICES AND ACCEPTANCE OF SUCH NOMINATION; ' BE IT ORDAINED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF EDGEWATER:, FLORIDA: Section 1. That all annual and special elections shall be called by the Town Council. Such elections shall be called by posting notice thereof in three different places in said Tovm, one of which shall be at the front door of the Town Hall of said Tovm, otherwise mown as "Community Hall", at t4 K I least fifteen (15) days prior to the date set for such election. Proof of the postine,of such three notices shall be made by the certificate of the Clerk of the Town of Edgewater, Florida. Section 2. The Town Clerk shall be ex officio town registration officer, and may appoint as many assistant registration officers as he may deem necessary. He shall keep a registration book in which shall be entered the names of all the inhab- itants of said Town who shall in person make appli- cation for registration, and who shall possess the qualifications requisite to an elector at general State elections, and who shall have paid his, or her,poll taxes as provided by law and as prescribed for State elections , and shall have resided in said Town for six (6) months next preceding the election, provided that State or County registration shall not i be required to qualify an elector of said Town. Section 3. That the Town Books of Regis- tration may be kept open at all times for registra- tion,except as hereinafter provided, during the week days at the office of the Town Clerk and shall be r kept open for registration from 9 o'clock A. Id. to 12 o'clock Noon, and from 2 o'clock P. M. to 5 o'clock P. M, during the week days at the office of the Town Clerk for ten t1C) daysbefore the close of the books of registration, and the books shall. close at 5 o'clock P. k. on the second day before the election. Section 4. That the Town Council shall, at the meeting calling an annual or special election as hereinbefore provided, prescribe by resolution the time of holding such election and the purpose thereof. All tovmelections shall be held at the Town hall unless otherwise ordered by resolution or ordinance of the Town Council. Section 5. That the Town Council shall appoint four persons from the qualified electors of said Town, three to act as inspectors and one to act as Clerk at said election, who shall conduct all elections in conformity with the laws of the State of Florida governing general elections in said State, provided that such Inspectors and Clerk of such election shall in the performance of their duties be t all times subject to the supervision of the Town Council. Section 6. That the Inspectors and Clerk of the election shall constitute the Board of Can- vassers. Section 7. That all ballots for use in annual and special elections shall be in substantially the same form as that prescribed by law for general elections in the State of Florida. Section S. That the Town Council shall cause to be printed upon said ballots the name of any qualified elector of said Town who has been re- quested to be a candidate for any municipal office by written petition signed by at least twenty-five (25) electors qualified to vote in the election to fill said office, when such petition has been filed, with said Town Council not more than twenty days nor less than ten days previous to the election, provided that the name of no person shall be printed on the ballot who has failed to notify the Town Council within five days before the election that he will and does accept the nomination specified in the petition hereinbe£ore required. Section 9. That this ordinance shall become effective upon its passage by the Town Coun- cil and upon its approval by the mayor or upon its becoming effective without such approval as provided by law. passed by the unanimous consent and vote of all the members of the Town Council present on the 24th day of January, A.
