Subject: Subcommittee report
Report from Eccotourism sub committee 10/1/14
A productive meeting with the professional fishing guides from the area was held on the evening of September 24th in
the City council chambers 6 guides that are registered with the city were invited and we had 13 present. The meeting
was recorded and should be available to listen to on the website. The highlights were that they were unopposed to the
locations for the trails we had suggested but they did express some safety concerns especially in the areas of narrow
turns in which power boats and kayakers would be in proximity. They were also interested in the material the markers
would be made out of because floating buoys had been used in some of the canoe trails in Canaveral National Park and
did not last. Over all, the meeting was positive and productive and they expressed appreciation for being kept in the
loop by the city on developments that may affect their livelihood.
In addition, since the last subcommittee report a meeting with the Leisure Services director Jack Corder and
City Manager Tracy Barlow on September 15th regarding the issues brought up in CEDS occured. Including Inventory and
assess all existing public access facilities along the Indian River Develop a plan and program for improving these facilities
and sites. Mr. Corder reports that all of the assessments and maintenance of existing public access facilities along the
Indian River Develop and sites and all over the city is an ongoing program and is dependent on funding. The current
budget does not include any renovation or replacement of facilities at this time nor does it provide for additional
signage.
