04-23-2014 CITY OF EDGEWATER Ecotourism Subcommittee Regular Meeting—Wednesday,April 23, 2014 8:00 a.m. 1. CALL TO ORDER Jeff Berner called to order the Regular Meeting of the Ecotourism Subcommittee at 8:00 a.m., April 23, 2014, in the City Hall Conference Room, 104 N. Riverside Drive, Edgewater, Florida. 2. ROLL CALL Members present were Jeff Berner, Chip Selman and Steve Harrell. Also present were Economic Development/Events Coordinator Janet Shira, Economic Development Board Chairwoman Bliss Jamison and Tabitha Russell. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES There was a general consensus to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of March 26, 2014. 4. REPORTS A. Economic Development/Events Coordinator Update —Janet gave the subcommittee an update on the fitness trail. She also spoke in regards to the trail head at Rotary Park and the deed restrictions for Menard-May Park. B. Contractor installing Pedestrian Bridge over SR 442 — A contractor report was given for the pedestrian bridge. 90% of the underground work is complete. 5. CONTINUED BUSINESS A. There was discussion on how the City can solicit businesses that can help promote Ecotourism. B. The committee discussed reaching out to groups who would be interested in participating in Echotour activities to get their feedback on the current plans for setting kayak trails. C. The committee reviewed the objectives in the CEDS plan that were pertinent to ecotourism. Section 3.41 addressed the Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan and the need for new and upgraded pedestrian and bicycle paths, trails and walkways that improve connectivity throughout the community. Janet stated that the City is working on sidewalks and multi-purpose sidewalks. She also stated that she would forward the Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan to the committee for review. The committee requested that the Leisure Services Director attend a meeting so that he could update them on projects to upgrade the parks. It was stated that most of the objectives that were reviewed were ongoing and progress was being made. There was also discussion about how the City could get included on the Volusia County Bike Maps. 6. NEW BUSINESS None at this time. 7.
