Ecotourism Subcommittee
Regular Meeting—Wednesday, May 28, 2014
8:00 a.m.
1. CALL TO ORDER
Jeff Berner called to order the Regular Meeting of the Ecotourism Subcommittee at 8:00 a.m., May 28,
2014, in the City Hall Conference Room, 104 N. Riverside Drive, Edgewater, Florida.
2. ROLL CALL
Members present were Jeff Berner, Chip Selman and Steve Harrell. Also present were Economic
Development/Events Coordinator Janet Shira and Tabitha Russell.
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
There was a general consensus to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of April 23,2014.
4. REPORTS
A. Economic Development/Events Coordinator Update—Janet spoke in regards to the following:
• Grant applications
• Salty Paddle Outpost
• Coordinating a meeting in July with Liz Sparks, Paddling Trail Coordinator for
the state
• Signage at Menard May Park
B. Report from the Leisure Services Director regarding objectives in the CEDS plan. — Janet gave a
brief report on the public facility upgrades. The Committee discussed inviting Jack Corder to the
next meeting to get a more in-depth report on public facility upgrades and the City's parks.
C. Contractor installing Pedestrian Bridge over SR 442 — A contractor report was given for the
pedestrian bridge. They have started the ramp on the south side and are finishing the uprights and
trusses. Barring unforeseen weather delays they expect to be finished on time in August. More
recently Mr. Pollok and Mr. Berner had a discussion regarding the trail leading to the pedestrian
bridge. Mr. Pollok stated that the bid is to be awarded June 10th for the trail running from Dale
Street to the pedestrian bridge.
5. CONTINUED BUSINESS
The Committee discussed the remaining CEDS items that are pertinent to Ecotourism. All of the
items in general are ongoing,
6. NEW BUSINESS
The Committee discussed having an open forum on an evening in early August to invite the fishing
guide and paddling communities to comment on the proposed paddling trails. At this same time, the
Committee should be able to physically start the process of setting and marking the trails. The goal
should be to align with the ribbon cutting for the opening of the pedestrian and bike trail in August.
