2015-R-39 RESOLUTION NO. 2015-R-39 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING GOVERNOR RICK SCOTT'S LEGISLATIVE REQUEST TO DEVELOP THE FLORIDA ENTERPRISE FUND; THEREBY PROVIDING FOR A MORE COMPETITIVE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT INCENTIVE TOOL FOR THE CITY OF EDGEWATER TO UTILIZE IN THE ATTRACTION AND RETENTION OF QUALITY JOBS AND INVESTMENT FOR OUR COMMUNITY AND OCR CITIZENS; REPEALING RESOLUTIONS IN CONFLICT HEREWITH AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Edgewater will be one of the largest Cities in Volusia County in the next 20 years with the Restorations DRI and Farmton projects; and, WHEREAS, the City of Edgewater is dedicated to building a diverse, strong economic base through the attraction of business investment and an the creation of high wage jobs in targeted high value industries; and, WHEREAS, the City of Edgewater has successfully assisted large boat manufacturers to expand their operations in Edgewater; supporting approximately 1,000 jobs and a total capital investment of more than $10 million this year; and, WHEREAS, the City of Edgewater leverages tax abatements and economic development incentives with state incentives when recruiting or retaining companies in targeted industries; and, WHEREAS, keeping Florida a national leader in job creation in an increasingly global economy requires dedicated economic development funds to compete with other states, and countries; and, WHEREAS, Florida has lost competitive projects to states who have dedicated enterprise funds; and, 2015-R-39 1 WHEREAS, Florida Governor Rick Scott's legislative proposal addresses the need for dedicated funds to enable Florida to compete global market. NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida: Section 1. Supports Governor Rick Scott's legislative request to develop the Florida enterprise fund; thereby providing for a more competitive economic development incentive tool for the City of Edgewater to utilize in the attraction and retention of quality jobs and investment for our community and our citizens Section 2. All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
