MINUTES
ROLL CALL/CALL TO ORDER
Mr.Tipton called the meeting to order. Members present were Tom Tipton, Mike Visconti, Debra Sopko
and Walt Zakaluzny. Also present was Jack Corder, Director of Leisure Services and Barb Kowall, Board
Secretary.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Mr. Visconti made a MOTION to approve the minutes of the October 13, 2011 meeting, and Mrs. Sopko
seconded. MOTION CARRIED 4-0.
OLD BUSINESS
Mr. Corder said the quotes came in high on the restroom/concession stand building to be put in Hawks
Park, but it is still all in the works and will eventually be a concrete building like the one at Kennedy Park.
NEW BUSINESS
Nominations for Chairman and Vice-Chairman for Year 2012
Mr. Zakaluzny made a MOTION to keep the same people in the offices of Chairman and Vice-Chairman;
being: Tom Tipton as Chairman and Debra Sopko as Vice-Chairman and Mike Visconti as the
Beautification Ad Hoc Committee Chairman. Mr. Visconti seconded the MOTION. As there were no
other nominations, the MOTION CARRIED 4-0.
Resignation of Joe Fishback and Review of Board Applications
Mr. Corder announced the resignation of member, Joe Fishback. He and his wife sold their home and
are relocating back to New Jersey. He stated there was to be a review of applications tonight for Mr.
Fishback's replacement, but there was only one application for review, and he would at least like to
have one or two more. Hopefully by the next meeting in July, there will be more to review.
Department Update
Mr. Corder stated we are working on plans for beautification of the medians from 101h Street to Falcon
Avenue. Mr.Visconti stated this has been needed for years and is happy to hear this.
Mr. Corder handed the Board a map of Edgewater with 4 possible sites to put a Dog Park. One site is
within Rotary Park, one by Mango Lake, one on Air Park Rd. and one on Hibiscus and 26th St. He said
they are really looking at Rotary as it already has restroom facilities, parking, water, shade trees, etc.
The area at Rotary would be about % acre, fenced in, on the Southwest end of the park. He said there
could be an area for large dogs and one for smaller dogs. The Board discussed this at length and Mr.
Visconti made a MOTION to recommend that the City Council go forward with the site at Rotary Park to
be utilized as a dog park. Mrs. Sopko seconded the MOTION and it CARRIED 4-0.
Mr. Corder said that April 28th will be the third annual " Jammin' In The Park" at Hawks Park, in
conjunction with the New Smyrna High School Band. The event will be 11 am to 6 pm and feature
musical talent, vendors,food and a Kid Zone for the children.
Mr. Corder also noted that the Edgewater Expo held on March 30th through April 1St was a huge success,
with over 160 businesses being showcased.
He also brought the Board up to date on the Rails to Trails program that is now underway.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, Mr. Zakaluznv made a MOTION to adjourn, seconded by Mr. Visconti.
MOTION CARRIED 4-0.
