BOX 100, EDGEWATER, FL 32132 CITY OF EDGEW A TER ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT BOARD SPECIAL MEETING AUGUST 16, 1994 6:30 P.M. CALL TO ORDER: Chairman Fong called to order a special meeting of the Economic Development Board at 6:35 p.m., Tuesday, August 16, 1994, in the Conference Room of City Hall. ROLL CALL: Members present were Chairman Fong, Mr. Jones, Mr. Porta and Dr. Gebelein. Mr. Browning, Mr. Churchill and Mr. Kowalewski were recorded absent. Also present were Charlene Thomas, of The News Journal and Liz McBride, Secretary. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: None at this time. CONTINUED BUSINESS: None at this time. NEW BUSINESS: Approval of Proposed Initiative #1: A Business Climate Analysis and Natural Linkage Study for the City of Edgewater, Florida by the Clark Development Group, Inc. Chairman Fong stated the sole purpose of the meeting was to discuss the Clark Development proposal, and asked the Board to take a minute to review the proposal. Chairman Fong said he had reviewed the proposal and it is consistent With what the Board had previously discussed. Chairman Fong said he had spoken to the City Manager on the cost proposed ($5,500), and that - he felt it was>easonable figure. Mr. Porta asked how would it be decided who is included in the company profile. Chairman Fong answered that the Board will need to discuss it in conjunction with staffs suggestions. He felt strongly that the EDB should be active in selecting the 25 businesses. Dr. Gebelein commented that no minimum number of firms to be interviewed was indicated, and that "up to 25 firms" as stated in the proposal could mean only one firm being interviewed. Dr. Gebelein said he would feel more comfortable if there was a minimum number, say 15 to 25, included in the language. Mr. Jones and Mr. Porta agreed that there should be a minimum number of firms set. o Q r .. New Business: Ms. Thomas, of The News Journal, asked what if there were fifty (50) business that wanted to be a part of this interviewing process, what would you tell them? Chairman Fong answered that this is only the beginning step. He said if the EDB, City staff, or any elected official would participate in any or all of the group sessions or individual company interviews, the process could be adapted and interviews with other businesses could continue. Chairman Fong entertained a motion to approve the Proposal subject to setting a minimum of 15 firms, and also to make a recommendation to the Council to approve the Proposal. Dr. Gebelein so moved. Seconded by Mr. Jones. Motion CARRIED 4-0. Mr. Porta asked when an occupational license list would be available. Chairman Fong said a printout would be available at the EDB's September 1, 1994 meeting. Ms. Thomas asked if businesses could call the EDB with questions. Chairman Fong answered they would need to call City Hall. CHAIRMAN AND BOARD MEMBER REPORTS: None at this time.
