8. MISCELLANEOUS
Ms. Williams stated the Library Advisory Board would be meeting
on Friday in Deland from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and informed the Board
what they would be discussing.
Ms. Williams presented statistics from other libraries in the
area.
Ms. McCormack feels there will be requests for a couple of the
libraries being open later in the evening. Right now Debary is
the only library open until 8 p.m. She feels the next request
will be that a couple of the larger libraries be open until 9
p.m. or 10 p.m. That is a typical scenario in larger library
systems.
Ms. Williams spoke of people wanting to use their own computers
at the libraries and Denny's Restaurants now having the
capability of hooking up patrons computers. Ms. McCormack stated
that is a common request at the Edgewater Library as well.
Chairwoman Haughwout expressed concern with people accessing
pornographic sites. Ms. McCormack confirmed Volusia County is
fully compliant with the US Supreme Court's mandate that they
have filtered systems because they receive federal money to buy
computers with. Adults can request they unfilter for that
specific adult for their period of time. This is really uncommon
for someone to do.

Ms. McCormack further commented on people not realizing that if
someone under the age of 18 walks behind them and sees
pornography they have committed a crime by exposing a minor to
that material. She wouldn't have a problem telling someone that.
She wouldn't be able to report this. It would take a court order
to divulge that information. She confirmed before the blocking
there were rare incidents and she would tell the people they need
to be aware.
Ms. Mackie asked what date they decided on for the Volunteer
Luncheon. Chairwoman Haughwout informed her April 5th.
Ms. McGinnis then asked what time they should be there. Ms.
McCormack informed her 11:30 a.m.
9. ADJOURNMENT
