Ms. McCormack had recently spoken to the Edgewater City Council about the status of our library.
She said one of the statistics that stood out was the number of hours our volunteers contribute to the
library. Monthly average was nearly 500 hours! Equal to 3 full time employees and 1 part time.
Ms. McCormack provided the following break down and acknowledgements.
Up to 50 hours - 30 volunteers
50 to 100 hours - 16 volunteers
100 to 200 hours - 16 volunteers
and special acknowledgement to:
(1 99hours and 45minutes) Ruth Abramowitz,
(198hours and 15 minutes) Elise Pinkowski.
200 to 300 hours - Mary Kleinhans, Linda Ladd, Larry Lamb, Barbara Makowski.
Lillian Matetich, Leona McCarthy,
375 hours and 30 minutes Kay Billick
417 hours and 30 minutes Sheri Shambora
Total hours in 2002: 6404
Ms. McCormack then addressed the volunteers as follows (quotedfrom her notes):
"Volunteers touch lives, you touch our lives.
You have shared with us parenting tips, gardening tips and cleaning tips.
You've shared your favorite recipe, your favorite joke, and your favorite book.
You have given us your political views, your economic views and scenic views.
You have shared your skills, your experience and sometimes, in a rare moment, the stories of
your lives.
The staff and I feel privileged to know each and every one of you.
I salute you and I thank you!"
The luncheon theme was "Volunteers Touch Life's"; the tables were covered in lavender tablecloths
decorated with potted flowers, purple plates and butterfly napkins. Pat Nolauberg, guest speaker and
a master gardener, spoke about wildlife habitat and butterflies during the luncheon program.
Volunteers were recognized for their individual jobs and asked to stand when their job function was
announced. Linda Ruddy, Library Assistant, read and distributed certificates to the Volunteers for
their service.
