SPECIAL MEETING
April 24, 2001
12:30 P.M.
CALL TO ORDER:
Chairwoman Jean Haughwout called to order a special meeting of the Library Board at 12:34 p.m.,
Tuesday, April 24, 2001, in the Edgewater Public Library. The purpose of the meeting was to
recognize the Library volunteers.
ROLL CALL:
Members present were Chairwoman Jean Haughwout, Marie Goodrich, Mary Rice, Linda Ladd, Sue
Shaw, Jo Anne Sikes and Jeanne Foster. Also present were Librarian Gayle Harmon; Regional
Librarian Suzan Howes; County Library Advisory Board (CLAB) Representative for District 2 Eva
Williams; V olusia County Library Director Mike Knievel and recording secretary Liz McBride.
Chairwoman Haughwout announced that this special meeting was to honor the Volunteers and
without them, they would not be able to have all the activities that the Library offers.
Chairwoman Haughwout adjourned the meeting at 12:35 p.m. to partake of the meal. Ms. Sikes
gave the blessing.
Ms. Harmon reported that injust one quarter, the Volunteers had put in 6,860 hours which saved the
Library system over approximately $52,000 dollars. She said the Volunteers made the Library a nice
place for customers to come to as reflected in the wonderful remarks made on the comment cards.
Eva Williams, CLAB Representative thanked the Volunteers for doing a wonderful job and
appreciated every single moment of their time, and that the library system could not manage without
them.
Mike Knievel, V olusia County Library Director, mentioned well deserved complements from some
out-of-town and international visitors for services provided to them by the Volunteers. Mr. Knievel
recognized Jean Haughwout and Gayle Harmon for their work on the parking space issue, Jo Anne
Sikes and Ms. Harmon for their work on historical preservation (of documents) and Stacy for her
brochure on how to use the computer catalogue.
Linda Ruddy, Library Assistant, read and distributed certificates to the Volunteers for their service.
Chairwoman Haughwout presented Ms. Ruddy flowers from the Board.
Suzan Howes, Regional Librarian, introduced herself and told the audience "the ten things you
always wanted to know about your new Regional Librarian but were afraid to ask".
A video was shown which was made during Staff Day with the Wizard of Oz theme.
