CITY OF EDGEWATER
SPENCER - BENNINGTON
FIRE DEPARTMENT MEETING
SEPTEMBER 29, 1983
MINUTES
On September 29,1983, a meeting was held between the representatives of Council,
Councilwoman Gigi Bennington and Councilman Jack Spencer, and representatives of
the Fire Department, Mr. Jessie Walls and Mr. Jack Bevel, and Mr. George Kennedy
who was the newly elected Fire Chief to take office November 1, 1983. Mr. Bob
Wolfe was not present at the meeting. The meeting was held in Edgewater City Hall.
Councilman Spencer discussed the meeting he had with Mr. Terry Wadsworth, Utilities
Superintendent, and a representative of D.E.R. regarding the old landfill. He
said it is being monitored for the amount of methane gas and it did not appear
suitable for current use.
Mr. Bevel said they were working on the rates for rental of the new building and
wouldn't be outrageous in price, but would be reasonable.
Councilman Spencer asked if they'd had an opportunity to get more information on
the old Winn-Dixie store and Mr. Bevel said he hadn't. Councilwoman Bennington said
she also hadn't been able to get any more, infurmation on the Eagle store there.
Councilwoman Bennington suggested they look at their plans again to consider going
a little smaller and design it to be stepped up in the future.
Mr. Bevel said they had the opportunity to acquire a metal building at a reasonable
price but he wasn't sure it was still available now. He said they'd be discussing
this again at their Thursday meeting.
Councilman Spencer asked the Fire Department members if they wanted to set up another
date for a meeting and Mr. Walls said they'd wait until after their meeting.
Mr. Bevel said they'd need to see if their members are receptive to some of the
suggestions and since it's such a big undertaking they'11 need the full cooperation
of all the members. He said he wanted to make sure they could finish the project
as he didn't want to jeopardize their reputation.
Councilman Spencer noted the Council representatives would be glad to meet with them
at their convenience after they had their meeting, and he wished them success.
There was a general discussion about \~hat facilities they were planning for in the
buil di ng.
